I'm surprised to see North Carolina ranked that low.

The South is definitely the most "polite" region of the country but that gap is no longer as it big as it once was even a decade ago and it narrows all of the time.

The rest of the USA isn't necessarily becoming sweeter but southerners are rapidly catching up in the "bitter, rude a-hole" metric.

Texas and Utah being below Illinois is laughable

I spent 4 years in Illinois, it has no business being ranked that high for best places to raise a family.

True, but that is a function of concentrated minorities and poverty to a degree.

New Orleans is becoming a big exception to this as bad street crime is increasingly becoming more evident in the French Quarter and CBD as the thugs come in and kick the shite out of tourists.

LA at least has Oil and Gas that provides some basis for an economy.

None of the other State in the bottom 5 have that, not with coal being dead as a business

yalls State truly is a shithole

I find I get ruder and ruder the more I deal with people who assume I’m a racist moron because of where I live.

I prefer the people in the South and parts of the Midwest to other areas of the country. Higher salaries are generally offset by higher costs of living as well

People have different priorities. You can get a good education anywhere if you have the aptitude.

Younger people tend to move for opportunity and excitement. As they mature, grow more secure financially they tend to seek out something fulfilling in other ways.

You can't look at the crime rates in Baton Rouge and New Orleans and say those are nice cities. I don't care if people smile at me in the grocery store. I'd rather not have to worry about getting shot.

They smile at you in the grocery store because their friend is ready to knock you in the back of the head when you step outside, in broad daylight so they can rob yo arse
