I’ve been eating Xanax for 20+ years (legitimately). I’ve never once taken more than my prescribed dosage, and I’m down to one 0.25 mg dose per day, which my doctor said is basically placebo at this point. Just about anything can be abused, medically.

This sort of situation and those like it are some of the clearest evidence that we don't understand addiction at all.

My sister is having a similar problem, but with her current doc stopping prescribing.
She has become prone to panic attacks at times. A prescription lasts her much longer than it was prescribed, and she has never tried to up the script.
The doc has refused to continue prescribing it. However, the doc has also not offered any alternatives.

Wouldn't legalizing medical marijuana be better for those with chronic pain instead of hooking them on pain pills?

I just want to try quaaludes one time in my life.

Can’t speak a word when you’re full of ‘ludes.

What about people who are have chronic pain? People with back, neck, shoulder injuries and can't get surgery but need to provide for the family?

I've been taking Xanax for 14 years.

I tend to call it "Dependence".Tomato/Tomoto.

I'll take it the rest of my life.

I don't take Pain Meds.

Start off the day with 4 xanax, then I'd drink half a pot of coffee while smoking bud and waiting for my pills to kick in. Throughout the day I would make black coffee drinking about 3 pots.

Speedballing... on a budget. Definitely seen a lot of folks in our industry succumb to similar when it was all black market trees.

Tylenol 3 is the strongest medicine they have ever taken

You realize that's basically heroin right? The poison is in the dose.

eta: why the downvotes? Is the poison not in the dose? That's axiomatic. And Tylenol 3 contains codeine, which is an opiate. So "the strongest medicine" you ever took could in fact be very strong if you were to take enough of it. (And of course the acetaminophen in Tylenol 3 would cause liver failure at a high enough dose).

But I never expect much critical though on the OT so I'm not sure why I'm surprised.

Eta2: mouthbreathers all of yous

I’ve got a prescription for them but have only taken maybe 20 in past 3 years and they are only taken as a last resort to get sleep. I’m not concerned about becoming addicted to them, the rebound insomnia after taking them for even 5 days in a row is hell enough to make me not want to take them ever.

That's why people that take large amounts of those use cold water extraction, it separates the two so it doesn't kill your liver
