Also, if you have benzos for sleeping at night, I'm not sure why he/she needs ambien as well.

Benzos help you falls asleep but they don’t keep you asleep.

IMO, the problem with using benzos for sleep is the tolerance that you build up. You may fall asleep easily on a small dose at first, but eventually it's going to take more and more to get the desired effect.

I’ve taken benzos to sleep for 15 years and have never needed to take more than 1mg. Of course, I don’t abuse it and take breaks whenever I can. Unfortunately, having actual OCD means it would be difficult for me to manage without benzos so I’m extremely dedicated to keeping my Rx needs low and suffering through “breaks” a couple weekends a year when sleep isn’t crucial.

Anything ending in "pam" or "lam" is a Benzo.

Ativan... Lorazepam

Xanax.... Alprazolam

Versed.... Midazolam

Klonipin... Clonazepam

Valium.... Diazepam

Xanax has the highest incidence of abuse and potential for tolerance. Needing to go from starting at 0.25mg to needing 1mg or 2mg (Bar) is common.

I took Xanax with my initial episode of GAD and panic attacks. My first GP after that took me off of than and put me on Valium. Valium is not the best either. I am now on Klonipin. The trick with klonipin is that it is nor quick acting. If you have a panic attack, youre gonna have to eat shite for about an hour before the klonipin kicks in. Hence why some people are or were prescribed two. Xanax and valium are better for quick relief or situational relief. Meaning something horrific like an unexpected death in the family or loss of a child. Any doc who doesn't write a parent whose child died a Xanax scrip is doing a disservice to mankind. Still writing the scrip a few months later? Different story.

I have a klonopin prescription for anxiety issues. I only take them when absolutely necessary. A 30-pill Rx will last me about a year.

Nope. It can be good for people who are trying to sober up (drinking) but it's not a fun party drug really. Not worth it.

I get some “illegal” Xanax everytime i fly because i am miserable with turbulence and I’m not afraid of flying but get super anxious when i fly.

So, i take some Xanax that i bought from a friend to calm down and it’s amazing.

I just don’t take them any other time than that

No shite...I used to have Ativan that I tood for acute attacks. I would wake up about 2:00 in the morning in a full-blown panic attack. Heart racing, couldn't breathe, felt like I was dying.

Also, Klonopin is prescribed for menopausal women to help with hot flashes.

My sister is having a similar problem, but with her current doc stopping prescribing. She has become prone to panic attacks at times. A prescription lasts her much longer than it was prescribed, and she has never tried to up the script. The doc has refused to continue prescribing it. However, the doc has also not offered any alternatives.

General Practitioner? If she needs them for long term use she needs to go see a psychologist for monthly meds.

Anyone here struggling with Benzo addiction?

Been taking 1-2mg/day since my dad's death 8 yrs ago.

My advice to anyone considering it, don't do it if at all possible. Coming off just this small dose has to be tapered. I absolutely hate this shite.

Initially, I was having moderate anxiety that I could deal with. Went to Dr when it got bad BC I thought I was having a heart attack - it was just in my mind.

Now my body is dependent and if I forget a dose, I start having withdrawals, which, if my memory serves me correctly, is way worse than the original symptoms.

Hate this shite with a passion. Have tried tapering off twice. Last time was almost a success.

frick benzos.

If you feel it's necessary to take, please research it in depth. Especially accounts of people trying to get off it. And be careful.

This should be stickied for anyone considering a prescription.

Some ppl don't realize how hard this shire is to stop once your body is dependent.

My wife has been taking it for a few years. She always takes less than the maximum dose and most days she doesn't take any. Her dr has actually encouraged her to use more than she does. I know people can and do get in trouble, but if you really need it and are under medical care, you shouldn't be scared to use it as directed.

Totally understand. I'm the same way. What scares me is my original Dr retired. His replacement said, nope...here's a 30 day supply and that's all Im going to give you. We discussed alternatives, they're even worse if you want to stop.

Found new Dr. But at this point, again, what scares me is I feel I'm totally under control of the Dr BC of withdrawal symptoms.

I want off this merry go round. I literally can't function if I go more than a day.

Like someone said earlier, it'd be a disservice for the Dr not to prescribe for a few months in these types of circumstances. But beyond that, its a different story.

Dr literally told me I could just stop cold turkey whenever I wanted.

That's a fukkin lie - at least for me.
