I’m sure you posted this already but how much do you take daily and for how long? What are your withdrawal symptoms?

This should be stickied for anyone considering a prescription.

Some ppl don't realize how hard this shire is to stop once your body is dependent.

Positively, hard and possibly dangerous. I've been tapering down for about two years. Like I said, I'm down to just one 0.25 mg dose per day now. I do not want to give that last, little white football up, even though the doctor told me that it's basically placebo at this point.

Well if opiates were overprescribed, there's no doubt in my mind xanax was/is just as much today.

Totally understand. I'm the same way. What scares me is my original Dr retired. His replacement said, nope...here's a 30 day supply and that's all Im going to give you. We discussed alternatives, they're even worse if you want to stop.

Found new Dr. But at this point, again, what scares me is I feel I'm totally under control of the Dr BC of withdrawal symptoms.

I want off this merry go round. I literally can't function if I go more than a day.

Like someone said earlier, it'd be a disservice for the Dr not to prescribe for a few months in these types of circumstances. But beyond that, its a different story.

Dr literally told me I could just stop cold turkey whenever I wanted.

That's a fukkin lie - at least for me.

this is basically why Jordan Peterson had to go into rehab a few months ago

also why i've always refused benzos even though i could have easily been prescribed them for decades at this point

my worry wasn't originally the acute withdrawal symptoms you're explaining, but more the emotional/suicidal issues kicking benzos can cause. as i grew older and saw a bunch of people i knew get addicted, and how hard it was for them to stop, it was really eye-opening. i dodged a bullet

If the Xanax (I assume) is for anxiety or panic attacks, having zero in the house any longer can lead to a panic attack. Like a security blanket.

At my lowest anxiety had my life not worth living. And if you asked me what’s wrong or why I was anxious, I could not tell you. We bought a house? That’s the ONLY thing I can see that could have triggered something. We were in a great place to buy one financially though.

Happened to me. The doctor prescribed me something else because they were against writing scripts for Valium/Xanax. I can't remember what it was but it made me sleep and gave me the most intense and awful dreams imaginable. It was absolutely terrible. My mom just gave me her script of Xanax to get me through.

You're exactly right with the security blanket description. Depression and incessant panic attacks also had me suicidal, which is why I was prescribed Xanax to begin with. Like you, the onset of the panic attacks was simply unexplainable.

That’s fricking cruel. I assume you appropriately were a devestated mess. 10 tablets of 0.5mg Xanax in that situation will not have you sucking dick in 10 months.

I'm this way... I keep one in my pocket at all times... I may take one tab per week.... but i try really hard to do without unless my anxiety skyrockets.

the security blanket thing is big.

When you’re “off”, it is.

Never abused anything other than alcohol in my life, but this is truth.

I took my last dose at the beginning of the year after taking valium for sleep for 7 years. Spent the nine months prior tapering down. The withdrawal was still awful even doing that, and I was on a low dose.

Is the withdrawal similar to opiate withdrawal?

That's how my wife is. She can have an anxiety attack when things are going well, then have a shitty day and weather it without incident. There used to be things that would trigger her anxiety but now it's seemingly random. No rhyme or reason.

1mg twice daily. I can cope with 1.5 easily.

Withdrawals:
Insomnia
Sensitivity to light
My mind rolls 100mph
Gritting teeth
Headache
General sense of impending death
Panic attack
Panic attack because I'm having a panic attack
Racing heartbeat...

There's one that I just can't put words to. It's like as if my central nervous system is in overdrive - feels weird, like maybe the feeling at the beginning of a really heavy workout when CNS spikes. It's like that but never comes down.

There are a few more I'd rather not mention.

.25 mg isn’t placebo. I used to eat bars by the handful a long time ago but haven’t touched one in years and if I took .25mg today I would feel it pretty damn good.

Bump in lieu of new post about it (searched but didn't see) , but I read today he went to Russia for some crazy shite (maybe medically induced coma) for rehab.
