A Metairie father was arrested and accused of punching a coach at Wally Pontiff Jr. Playground over his son's playing time, officials said. Lance Faucheux, 46, was booked Tuesday with battery of a schoolteacher or an athletic official, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Faucheux is accused of slugging the coach of his son's 7- and 8-year-olds football team during a dispute Monday at the Old Metairie recreational facility located at 1521 Palm St., according to Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation Department Director C.J. Gibson.

Other coaches stepped in to separate Faucheux, who continue to try and fight, the arrest report said. He left with his son and went home.

I wonder if he beat the kid's arse for being a terrible player.

Side bar:

At what age does the OT think playing time should be based on merit as opposed to evenly distributed? Kids get better by doing stuff. At 7-8, play everyone, let them develop. If you are out there trying to win, im not sure your priorities are aligned properly.

There is a reason a ton of high level QBs are the son of coaches...they get the opportunity to play QB.

You do not get it, by the time they are 7, they should have private instructors and year round training. You cannot let everybody play, This PEE WEE Football. You play to win the game!!!

I am glad I did not ever coach football. I did not have to deal with this as much in basketball. I agree with required playing time until about 11-12 ish.

Exactly. Missing that 1 game when they're 7 will blow their chances at the NFL.

Some kids are meant to be cheerleaders or in the band.

It's a sliding scale that starts at evenly distributed at 5 and 6 and moves toward merit based play a little more every year until about 14 or 15 years old.

Pretty much why I quit coaching. The politics and hilarity of it all was just disgusting at such a young age where this should be about fun and learning the game. Parents who got on me if I didn't run their kid until he puked or played one "out of position". I'd always put the big kids on the line and get blasted because their kid wasn't QB or RB. If one kid sucked, I'd be drilled as to why he was still playing when their son was clearly God's gift to football. Just pathetic, honestly.

In our 9U league every player must play at least 50% of the plays. I'm cool with it.

I help coach my son's football team (he's 8). It's the moms that are usually crazy, not the dads. Most dads know little Johnny sucks. Momma will curse you out in a heartbeat. I still try to give most of the tier 2 and lower players equal playing time though.

This is how it's done in my neck of the woods. You don't really not play until high school.

This way it is for our NFL Flag league. Yes, I know its flag but so much more laid back and fun as hell to coach. Our league as grown leaps and bounds while the tackle youth league is struggling with players. Some think its because of injury concerns but I believe its related to coaching/parents etc like this loser.

No way in hell i could coach a football team. It's bad enough having to deal with parents but most of the other coaches are parents of kids on the team as well

Baseball all the way with me. My way or the fricking highway. My way usually turns out great for all involved. End of the year kids would come ask me if they can try a new position. Sure buddy, go out there and give mom and dad a chance to get pictures of you pitching. Kid would usually figure it out he wasn't meant for that position and come ask me if he could go back to his spot.

Things have a way of working themselves out that way.
