I’d rather a colonoscopy every month for the next ten years than move to Houston.

Pacific Northwest >>> Houston

PNW is amazing. Some of the best beer and wine in the country, legal weed, beautiful scenery and architecture, tolerant people without a church on every corner, incredible food scenes, near the ocean and lush forests, a temperate climate, and plenty of solid paying jobs available.

My wife and I have bandied about the idea of moving to Portland after all the kids are out of the house.

Right, Texas lacks decent beaches. Not arguing there. Im just saying there are plenty things to do besides food and drink. Just like anywhere else. Houston is a major city with the usual big-city attractions. If you can’t find anything to do in houston then you just don’t want to do anything.

I’m not gonna shite on Florida. I’d like to live there myself bc I love the beach. The lack of a decent beach is a major bummer about Texas.

Right there with you on metro Houston. Great place to start a career and a family. La is a cool place to visit but not to live forever. Houston keeps getting better and better while La keeps getting worse and worse. The comparison is ridiculous. La people who hate on Texas are in denial about how good Texas is and how bad La actually is.

HTX is great because it’s close enough to south La to come back and visit frequently but not have to live in La and deal with all the bs that comes with that.

I guess it depends where you live in Louisiana. I’m 10 minutes from downtown New Orleans and wouldn’t trade my house for any mansion in Texas. A lot going on in this city all the time, unlike the rest of Louisiana.

It does depend where you live. Nola does have a lot of things going on compared to the rest of La. but at the end of the day there’s no comparison. Houston wins every category over Nola and La as a whole.

I mean, agreed. With any city, if you can’t find something to do then you don’t want to do anything. But I like those extra things. People will shite on Disney, but living in Florida, 2 annual passes are less than cable. I love in biking distance of the parks, so that’s essentially a no brainer. We can pop in for a few hours, and then head to the beach in the same day.

I’m still salty about not moving to the town beside Glacier National Park. BUT, the lowest we will get is low 60s during the day. So that saves me in cost for winter clothes

Füt genuinely seems to be a little infatuated with you. I think he could be a contender in the next Owlie Fan Club President elections.

You refer to what you want most to personally experience.

You & OweO should just get an el Roomio.

First floor, that’s how he rolls.

No pics.

Fine, so Houston is growing and growing. We don’t need more growth here. Our infrastructure can’t handle all the growth we currently have!

Call me in 5 years when you think Houston is the dumpster fire it is and you’re ready to move to Franklin, TN

If you have enough time, before you move anywhere read the local major newspaper for a year.
We did the search and we found that one city we were really interested in seemed bound and determined to micromanage everything about life there. Others were very liberal. Others had their own version of "pass this millage, you won't have to pay it," approach to taxation.

Dallas, FWIW, gets tree destroying ice storms and tornadoes love the landscape there. Houston's recent floods weren't supposed to happen. In our time in NOLA we heard the gunshots that killed three people (over a three year time period, but we lived in the Quarter when the L Pizza Kitchens murders happened.)

Also, Houston does not have zoning laws. This is sort of a head scratcher but development these days seems to have intentions of blending areas in. Maybe not, hard to tell.

I would assert the no zoning deal is one of the most interesting things about Houston as a city. It’s sort of the one thing that creates a uniqueness to it.
