Houston people are too dumb to know this.

Houston sucks and BR sucks even more. Much rather live in Dallas.
Dallas is no longer any better than Houston, unless you like their sports teams more. Houston has made up a lot of ground with Dallas in last 20 years. A lot of Dallas' old charm has been replaced with millennial gun toting pansies that aren't worth half their salaries.

Houston is a great city. People are awesome and there's a ton to do. Top 5 US city for me. It will never compare to LA or San Diego but it's still awesome.

Short answer is it was a term created specifically for DFW. The long answer is Houston is a major city w/smaller satellite cities around it while DFW is comprised of the two major cities Dallas and Forth Worth (w/Arlington to a lesser degree) and it’s satellite cities. Nobody calls Houston the Metroplex. Also, while Dallas is in the Metroplex it is not the Metroplex by itself.

Dallas seems to be a much prettier city than Houston in general. More green space from what I noticed and more neighborhoods with homes in the 300-500K range than Houston, where everything in the inner loop is in that ugly 3 story townhouse style. Dallas also has a more diverse range of jobs for college graduates and professional degree holders.
People seem about the same. I am not sure why Dallas has a stronger reputation for stuffy people, but I have also spent much less time there. Traffic is about the same, and both cities are growing at a rapid pace and will continue for a while. Both have a ton of sprawl. Houston’s Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, and Woodlands seem comparable to Frisco, Plano, Allen/McKinney, Grapevine, and Flower Mound.
Both cities have fairly bad weather but Dallas has less severe weather events. Both are much safer than any Louisiana counterpart.
I would probably give a slight edge to Dallas but both are fine. Nothing amazing but 7/10 or so as cities.

I don’t know why someone would choose to live in a cluster of 5 million people. I don’t want to be closer than 30 minutes away from Nashville and it’s less than 1/4 that size. m
To each his own, I guess.

Two reasons. For younger people, it’s likely that the Uptown area left them w/a negative impression due the high amount of trust fund douche bros who tend to gravitate towards there. For older (mostly) rural folk it probably stems from Dallas being a major banking center in the state and resentment towards people who may control your home or land mortgage.

If I have a complaint about Houston, it’s that it’s so damn big.
If you got stuff going on in other parts of the city, it can take you an hour to get there with no traffic.

The great thing about Houston is that it welcomes people from impoverished places such as Louisiana or Mexico because it recognizes the will to survive and thrive. There’s no motivator like poverty.

Flat, humid, congested, commercial and full of Texans. What's not to like about Houston? You guys can have it.

I lived in Houston for a few years and other large cities and it’s pretty simple. If you live in Katy or Kingwood or Cypress ir SugarLand you don’t live in Houston. Just like Brentwood and Franklin in TN I’m guessing. I lived in central Houston and worked in Houston proper, and it was great.
Where I am now, people complain about horrific traffic and long commutes in Austin. But they live in like Cedar Park or Kyle. I live in Austin and have a 9 minute commute downtown
