Maybe I'm lucky but I love living in South Louisiana and I make a good living in a job that I love. It would take a lot to move me to a big city...and I mean a lot.

It is a fortunate thing to love where you work and live.

Yeah the main reason people live near big cities is for the job opportunities, and the reason why people like you and I live close in is because we have a stronger dislike of daily commutes than people who live in nicer homes but are 30 miles away from their jobs.

My girlfriend’s brother recently switched jobs and now has a 50 mile one way commute. I have no idea how he does it daily even though there is apparently no traffic.

I’m not saying you can’t live a great life in Louisiana. It’s the politics, economics, and infrastructure that hurt.

Jesus Christ you are a pussy.

I lived in both and yes here in Kingwood is “nice” but I would move back to NO in a heartbeat. I get tired of all the fluff and routine shite around here.

Didn’t like Houston the short time I lived there (was in the Woodlands). Not because it’s a big city. Your only real options of things to do are drink or eat. Besides having a pool, the only things you can do in the summer outside is go to Austin or go to shitty arse Texas beaches. I could go back to Louisiana, but only if I lived in Nola. Could not go back to Baton Rouge.

Currently in Orlando. Besides the traffic, I enjoy it. It’s nice being a hour away from both the gulf and the Atlantic. Live at the edge of Disney (Celebration), and they have managed to make it a small town feel only residents of the town can use by doing IDs in the town for all amenities. Would definitely move to a coastal town here in Florida if given the chance. Don’t care which side either.

Dallas is extremely clean and nice. But everything just reeks of try-hard, faux pretentiousness. Very cookie-cutter.

Houston is a gigantic sprawl with pockets of extremely awesome/cool places, but also extremely trashy/ghetto areas.

Inner-loop houston > Dallas
Houston burbs <<< Dallas Burbs

Houston food options >>>> Dallas food options

I enjoy Fort Worth, points east are a bit overwhelming for me.

Trophy Club, oh my, their garages are larger than our home.

Never tire of the Stockyards.

Growth in the region is off the charts. Very different, in a good way, when we relocated to Wichita Falls some almost 30 years ago

Best of luck.

Big Cities suck, traffic is a bitch. Can never get used to that. Prefer San Diego or Chicago, those two of my favorite big cities in the country

Chicago is a bigger clusterfrick of traffic than Houston.. and the crime is awful. Oh yeah, and can’t forget about those brutal winters with that wind in your face constantly. Still a cool city, though.

A lot of places make Louisiana seem like a third world country.

Because it is a third world country.

Louisiana is the Nigeria of the USA.

That’s like the tallest midget contest. I have a good friend from Nigeria. She loved it and visits occasionally, but she doesn’t venture to northern areas where it’s Muslim and a different language.

That’s what most people do. Notice that when people here talk up a place, they always mention bars and restaurants.

But there is plenty other things to do in the Houston area. Houston has the usual big-city attractions like museums, zoo, plenty of big concerts. Much of the activities are family oriented in the suburbs, of course. The fishing is of course not as good in Texas, and there isn’t the close proximity to nice gulf beaches, but there are numerous state parks and the hill country is only a couple hours away.

You’re mentioning things every average city no matter the region has. Difference is most of those outdoors things are terrible during the summer in Houston.

Florida gets a lot of hate, but especially being this far south, I can do a day trip to either cost 10 months out of the year. When we decided to leave Houston, it was the mountains or near the ocean. I wish I was a little closer to the ocean, but being near both coast is nice too.

Ok so you compared parts of. Houston which are like parts of New Orleans Only Everything in New Orleans is within minutes without the traffic. And has Nola music and food. I’ll stay in New Orleans Small big city > big big city.
