Be careful on those cruise excursions, baws...

Third world countries aren't always the safest places to try new things. Had a client whose husband was killed on a zip line a few years back while on a cruise excursion

Went zip lining in Costa rica several years ago. At the end of our group was two solo guys, one in a red shirt and the other in a blue shirt. The guides spoke poor English. They just memorized that ole red shirt was always the last one down. Until red and blue swapped places for some reason and the guide on the next platform down didn't know. When red shirt came down, they turned focus to going to the next platform and didn't throw out the brake for poor blue shirt. It was all fun and games standing on a platform way up on a redwood tree in the rainforest until we heard "where's the brake!?" And poor blue shirt shattered his ankles slamming into the tree. Whole thing shook. Dudes writhing in agony. Half my family had already gotten to the bottom and were probably wringing their hands wondering why the rest of us hadn't come down yet.
Come to find out that blue shirt was on a cruise with his elderly mother who was in a wheelchair. And now he's in a Costa Rican hospital. Awful stuff. Haven't done any extreme sports in a 3rd world country since then.
Looking back, we were probably a little lax on the lack of safety standards when we rode a rickety bus around a dirt road up a mountain that had no guide rails to get to the start of the zip line. Otherwise, it was pretty fun.

How does that happen? I would ask them to check and double check, I can't blindly trust that someone is not going to make a mistake

You’re jumping off a high platform attached to a giant rubber band…
While a fair point, I’m not sure people who ask alot of logical methodical questions are typically the bungee jumping target demographic.

I was just in Roatan, this could've been me.
The fact that they sent this to the news with her name, a video, and the words "genital trauma" associated with it are wild. You couldn't torture this info out of me. Good for them for having like $12k in their gofundme to cover that sweet PJ ride, I guess.
A good rule of thumb while traveling is to avoid the cruise crowd and anything marketed towards them.

PSA: if you have an AMEX Platinum or a Chase Sapphire Reserve, those cards come with coverage up to $100k for this. You have to charge the whole trip on the CSR. I believe the AMEX is better in that you don't have to charge the trip on it. There may be other cards that have that coverage, but I know these two do as i have both.
