He personally knew Shelby Holmes from tailgating. When he went to the scene of Shelby's murder, he didn't recognize him. He had been shot in the head.

MOVEBR is funded by a dedicated sales tax.

So? You made my point for me.

That's exactly what I'm getting at. We approved money for "MOVE BR" but voted against a tax to properly fund the DA's office.

Notice I said Baton Rouge has its priorities wrong?

yes because the only branch that has less than 20 visitors a day is the Pride branch - that other poster’s statement is false

Elementary schools and middle schools that participate in AR cannot keep up with the demand of books - parents don’t want to buy a book a kid will only read once - libraries are necessary

Old people don’t want to buy books or computers and there are a lot of programs for the elderly at the library

Even suggest a small reallocation of those funds to something as trivial as police/fire protection
because it’s against the law to do that without a vote on it

little row for bikes to ride dangerously close to cars that are driving in lanes that are dangerously too narrow now. Wtf.

They did a similar thing in Okaloosa county. Painted some lines that made the street narrower and gave the bikes a "path". Everyone ignores the lines. Its damn near suicidal to ride a bike there because so few people actually ride bikes in the new paths and no one driving is expecting it. Stupidest waste of money.

There's a part of these where vehicle traffic and the bike lane crosses paths. Like not at a light or anything either

The speed limit is 45 but people go 60 because it's just a long straight shot with few lights. They screwed up a fairly nice road to drive on for bike lanes nobody uses. That's government in action.

Really?

Because you said the mayor should be recalled, and used this as your reasoning:
quote:

Meanwhile, Coach Sid Edwards, just 2 weeks ago, greenlighted 60 damn Million dollars for sidewalks and bike paths on Florida Blvd.

So your “point” was that he needs to be recalled because he used the funding dedicated to MOVEBR for.. MOVEBR?

So - again - Sid should be recalled because the voters approved MOVEBR (before he was even elected) but rejected the 4-mill property tax for the DA’s office? I’m just trying to figure out what the road projects have to do with your stance here.

Would you rather have Sharron Weston Broome as our mayor? Because those are the choices.

Be smarter.

[embed]Hillar Moore, the local DA, is begging for money to keep his office from falling apart. Chronic shortages of ADAs to prosecute a massive backlog of cases. And it's so bad, he just sued the City Parish for more funds.[/embed]

My guess is that the judges not moving the cases fast enough is the primary problem. As long as the defense attorneys are writing campaign checks, they will be able to get nonsense continuances and clog up the courts.

Hillar could call this out, but doesn’t for whatever reason.

I’d be interested to see accurate crimes committed data with arrests, acceptances, convictions, sentencing with # of days between each stage.

Everyone in charge needs to be challenged by the media every time they step outside on exactly what they did last week, are doing this week and are going to do next week to increase the number of convictions and sentences.

They have danger zones marked in green now. Not sure who has the right of way since I thought a bike was the same as car a car on the road.

Did you see where Sid put forth the plan to pay police finally? It passed earlier this week!

If you are mad about sidewalks bc of money spent you should be happy about this.

BRPD will finally be a leader in pay , I’d suspect officers come back that left for other places along with making it much easier to recruit new recruits.

Yes. sorry it's complicated for you to figure out.

He should have pointed out how whack our priorities are. Perfect opportunity. Instead the idiot came out all gleeful said it would save lives.

Tell that to the family of that 17 year high school girl Sid.

This isn’t remotely reflective of reality. Is this based on anything in particular, or is it purely a guess cut from whole cloth?

He just made the largest investment in BRPD pay ever with the goals of keeping good cops and erasing the manpower shortage. Which was actually his second attempt after first attempt with different funding getting voted down.

You can nit pick all you want but you can’t say he isn’t doing something.

I am 100 on board with the anger but look at the facts. Could more or something else be done? Sure - I think you will see that but size of force and compensation was a huge hurdle he got us over.

The damage of Murphy Paul and Broome that thinned the ranks can’t be understated

Nah, we should definitely recall him because he’s not having public toddler tantrums over dedicated funds that voters decided on years ago. I’m sure castigating voters would be incredibly effective in turning the city around.
