The Real Superstore took generic to the extreme. Their "store" beer was in yellow cans labeled "BEER" in big bold letters.
That's the only thing I remember about it. Now the Greenwell Springs store is a rotting hulk, unused for probably 30 years.

Richard Goff was the best boss.

I pass it almost every day on the way to work. There's been a sign on it for a while that says "Noble Manufacturing". There's cars parked in front every morning as if people are working there. Not sure what they make.

I recall a little movie room for kids. Did parents just drop kids off there unattended? I think there was someone hired to watch but not positive.
Warehouse Foods had the Movie Room at the center of the store next to walk-up food counter.
I remember doing the Coke and Pepsi Challenge there when i was a kid.
It was right here in Baton Rouge.

No, but I remember going to the Rebel Flea Market

I used to go there as a young man to get flowers for my dates.
I remember having to cross the picket line to go shop.
You still see one of their buildings show up from time to time in movies.

I worked there early on and this was likely before the quarter in the shooping cart thing.
I just remember it being eleven million degrees wearing that Grey polyester shirt, pushing a Mile long train of carts back to the store.
That job us the reason I return my cart to the "corral" every single time now.

Taken down by unions
Absolutely correct, my old man opened the Lafayette store. When the union went on strike, his workers would laugh at him going in to work. Fast forward six months and they were all out of work.

He was my dad’s mentor for a time. Used to go to his house and swim with his sons. He was a really nice man that always went the extra mile for our family.
The other name I recall is Mr. Estes. He was higher than Goff if I recall correctly. Not sure if he was the CEO or something.
I miss my summers with a fridge filled with National brand sodas and a bike that could take me anywhere. What a time to be alive!

Was a marine on Vietnam under Calley. Boxed too.

Well unions hurt but the damn nepotism in that company killed it. You had quite a few boobs who had jobs in management because of family

When I moved into my first apartment in '84, I remember going there and having to buy EVERYTHING. (Food, soap, Windex, broom, mop, etc. If it was a basic item, I bought it that day and went into sticker shock when the cashier gave me the total.)

Still exists in Canada to this day, yellow generics and all.
They even have smaller locations dedicated strictly to generics.

Oh wow, core memory unlocked. He tried to show me how to spar by his pool when I was 8 or 9. His sons were older and would try to talk shite, and we would light them up.
He and my dad talked about Vietnam some but I had no idea he was with Calley. That’s crazy.

I remember Warehouse Foods. You got a crayon to mark the price on canned goods.

When lived in Denham, he had a Sunday afternoon cookout. Had a couple of beers. These clowns came flying and I mean flying through the neighborhood. He was HOT. Threw his keys at their truck. Then got in his truck, I jumped in. He found them, chewed them out saying there were kids in the yards and they could have killed him. Then all 5'6" of him beat the hell out of all three at the same time. Seriously. Me and someone else pulled him off of them.
