As a kid I wanted to shimmy up the pole and climb inside. Getting up on the roof though was a bigger problem.

Howard’s, Winn Dixie and Eckard Drugs were the 3 main tenants. There was a barber shop also (Barry’s).

There was TG&Y in the old Broadmoor shopping center next to Eckerds. There's a gym there now. Good memories.

Pretty sure the Rouse's on Drusilla (used to be Matherne's) was originally a TG&Y.

I once got locked in the TG&Y on Greenwell Springs Rd near Monterrey. My mom was getting something at the K&B and I walked over to TG&Y to see if the had any 86’ Topps NFL rack packs. I guess I walked in after the announcement that they were closing.
I was standing in one of aisles trying to decide on which pack to buy and the lights went out. I panicked and ran to the door just in time to see the employee who’d just locked it walking away. I frantically banged on the door and thankfully he heard me and looked utterly puzzled as he let me out.
I realize later that I missed an opportunity to have a montage of fun until then cleaning crew arrived later - like in the movies - but at the time, my 10 year old mind was too preoccupied with not getting murdered by the TG&Y boogie man that undoubtedly lived in the aisles waiting for a dumb kid to get locked in.

Nichol's store in Winnfield is going strong in such a small town with a Walmart.

I also remember Howard's as well as Gibson's Department Store. We had a Gibson's in Bogalusa and used to go to the one on Florida Blvd in Denham when we came to visit my Grandmother.
