What's the obsession with building libraries around here?

If you lived in the Southdowns area, how far would you have to travel to get to the nearest library compared to other areas of town?

Southdowns isn't far from Bluebonnet, Carver, Goodwood, or the Downtown Library.

Yup, if you look at past advocate articles you can see that the money is already there for the purchase too. LINK

The library system uses a pay-as-you-go model for all of its projects, rather than borrowing money. Years ago, library officials set aside $6.7 million for the library’s south branch.

I take it you've never set foot in any of the BR libraries.

Yes, I have. I used the Bluebonnet library multiple times to study last year. Had it not been there, then I would have just gone somewhere else (i.e. Lsu's campus). I think the issue is here with most, is the over-populating of local libraries. When is enough enough?

You can't really believe contracts are awarded in Louisiana based on qualifications, can you?

looks like we last voted for it in 2015. We have 10 more years of over funding our library system.

If the libraries are overcrowded (which they seem to be every time I go), then is it possible that they actually either don't have enough libraries or that they have too many libraries in some areas and not enough in others?

Yea we use the Bluebonnet Liberry regularly for the GF and the kids to check out books. I stick to Ebooks on Overdrive and Audio Books on RBDigital(Linked to Liberry too).

I used Goodwood once last year when I wanted to checkout the LPB DVD "Baton Rouge's Troubled Waters". I like the Liberries but I think we have enough of them.

Anyhoots. I really recommend that video to anyone from BR or interested in how segregation affected public pools/spaces/stores in the city. It also gives a very profound look into daily life in the city back in the 50s-early 60s.
My dad lived near downtown BR during that time and confirmed everything I asked him regarding the video.

Want to know HOW I know you are stupid?

I am not up to refuting points intellectually today, I am mentally exhausted this week.

Suffice it to say, the internet does NOT have everything, first. Secondly, what it does have, oftentimes is quite expensive and you among many would bitch about having to pay for something that is beyond your price expectations.

Another newsflash, surprisingly enough, many human beings still ****GAAAAAAAAASP**** read monographs, real, physical, printed books and NOT e-books. Shocking, I know, but in my reading over the last couple years, limited, yes, the e-book phenomenon has it's place, but sales have reached a plateau. This is partly due to the pricing, as what were once lower-priced alternatives, e-books are now nearly equal in price to their hard-back counterparts, and sometimes MORE expensive than paper-backs.

Did you know that libraries add e-books to their catalogs that patrons can check-out onto their devices?

sort of not serious, sort of serious.

is there any way Baton Rouge residents can vote to suspend any and all decision making done by the Baton Rouge Metro Council until further notice? (or current members are removed)

So the city-parish will purchase land for $1.7M and pay $20,000 annually in HOA fees when the fight over raising salaries for the few law enforcement members that have stayed to work for one of the most unsupported agencies in the state is still happening.

pertaining to the previous, yes some obscure things are expensive but thats ok. I would rather than than taxes paying to keep that obscure item that is used once in 10 years. And you dont know me, you dont know i buy and dont buy.

are you joking? in modern times there is no reason for a library. Now, like i said in the downtown library thread, If they were building a new innovative online library where they house the servers etc. than sure build a library. but paper back books are space wasters.

Modern times are changing, there is a exclusive private school in the Silicon Valley area where the wealthy execs from Google, Oracle, etc. send their kid. The big attraction, old fashion methods of learning, from kindergarden until highschool no technology is allowed, no cell phones, no tablets, no computers, no calculators. They use pencil, paper, a blackboard, and God forbid books, other schools are starting to copy their model. Apparently these leaders of the tech world who could send there kids to school anywhere think technology my be a detriment to kids learning, not a aid.

First words of sentences start with capital letters.
The pronoun "I" is always capitalized.
You'd rather pay FEWER taxes.

Perhaps you need to spend some time in a library, you ignorant jackass.
