unless they're intending to use the same design team, this has no bearing on the necessity for other libraries

Considering the design team is selected based on qualifications, I really doubt they'd give the award to the same team.

Didn’t Spinoza try to donate land in Rouzan for a library when it was still in the planning phase? And now we are buying land there?

Spinoza sold almost the entire development, he has nothing to do with this new library deal.

I know Spinoza is out of the deal now. But my point remains. Are we now paying for something we were offered for free a few years ago?

are you joking? in modern times there is no reason for a library. Now, like i said in the downtown library thread, If they were building a new innovative online library where they house the servers etc. than sure build a library. but paper back books are space wasters.

I'd be good with us having 3 or 4 but we have like 15

Yes, I believe that's the case.

What's the obsession with building libraries around here?

Democrats that have no idea what a return on investment means.

Libraries do have a lot of free resources for people to use. You can use different software packages, or even learn a different language for free. They have all of the scholarly journals and shite online for free. Access to many expensive magazines for free (like Nature). Before classes that I wasn't familiar with, I'd go get textbooks and read through them.

They really are a good resource, but are very under-utilized. IMHO, students should be required to do research only available in the library. I've found much more historical information in a library than I could online

I been laughing watching that wall go up and Mexican workers building it.

That's gotta be a CVS. Closest one is at Perkins Rowe(far for drug stores).

They still have these?

Libraries around the country have done a very good job of adjusting to the times we live in. If you're lucky enough to live in a good area, libraries are very much still a relevant service.

No. Most successful developers don't give away $1.7MM worth of land for free when they know for a fact it can be sold.

That land is some of the most valuable undeveloped land in BR, and they are giving the city-parish a discount on it, which they should. Its still expensive as shite though.

Have you been inside a library in the last 10 years?

Its not just a place where we store books for people to check out. There are books there, but most of that stuff has been moved online. Libraries now are meeting spaces for people to study, work, use public resources that are largely unavailable elsewhere. They host events for speakers on different topics and host networking events. They have career fairs... Leave it to the OT to criticize the BR Metro Council in trying to improve education and employment.

There's a CVS at Highland & Lee also.

I drove by a few days ago as they're doing the brick work from inside the building, leaning over the edge to work on the outside. It's so close to the road that if one of the guys fell over the ledge he'd probably land on Perkins Rd.

Let's build another library and congest traffic even more. Grand idea!

New Flash: It's almost 2019. How about this Council get on board with digital age. Are brick and mortar libraries really needed? 20 years from now? This damn many?
