Base layers for cooler weather

What are some base layers y’all use during cooler / cold weather? Looking for something that is lightweight, good for 40-50 degree weather, and pretty much comfortable to wear all day if needed.

Check under armour like stuff on Amazon. Don't remember the brand names but I swear by them.

100% cotton T-shirt

This depends heavily on what you’ll be doing, whether you’ll be sweating or otherwise getting damp, etc. A thin cotton long sleeve shirt might make a great base layer in one circumstance but a terrible base layer in another.

T-shirt with a sweat shirt as in inner layer, and a high quality wind shirt or wind breaker as an outer layer.

It’s kinda a mixture of being inside and outside. Inside will be minimal heat and pretty much working at a desk or table. Not a constant movement. Outside will be moving continuously at times but also can be minimal movement for long periods.

I swear by All-In-Motion tees from Target. They’re legit quality. Price starting to go up as people realize how good that brand is, but they can still go on sale as cheap as $10 a piece. Go for the higher % synthetic tees though, the high cotton % tees aren’t as good. And these are super breathable so you can wear them under sweatshirts or jackets comfortably but also wear them in the heat. Plus they’re fairly form fitting (but not under armor tight) so no jumbling up under sweatshirts

Smartwool
They have a few different levels of thickness depending how low the temps go.
They are great, I have a couple of each level

Don’t forget to wear band aids over the nipples on them long runs once it drops below 60.

check the tags because a lot of the merino wool you will see on places like Amazon are only like 60% merino

I like the basic 32 Degrees Heat brand for a base layer.

It was a balmy 42 degrees in Iowa City this morning. I was considering shorts and a wife beater, but thought "now that isn't proper office attire".
Seriously though, alpaca wool is great and that Costco base layer stuff (32degree or something) is actually the best for the money.

Merino wool is hard to beat for cool or brisk temps and you can choose the weight based on expected temps, level of activity and how hot (or not) you run. Nice also because the quality stuff is durable and doesn't stink with multiple wears. Great for maximizing packing space if traveling. Smartwool is the widely available, not as soft as some, but I think perfrorms well and doesn't break the bank.
