I think the school has to intervene with these types of cases early on
The school called over 250 times, mailed multiple letters, did a home visit, and had a meeting between the mother and school administration.

-Anytime a student is absent from a class, the student's family receives an automated phone call at their listed number advising the missed time. If necessary, families may respond to the call by noting if the absence meets the criteria to be excused.
-In summer 2020, students at Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Arts received a letter explaining their academic status.
-School staff also attempted to contact the student's family. The school later mailed a letter and conducted a home visit.
-Ultimately, the student's parent visited the school and met with its leadership.

It’s a school where a student who passed three classes in four years, ranks near the top half of his class with a 0.13 grade point average

How in the hell did this woman not know how her son was doing in school.
She may not be able to read his report cards.

Tiffany France thought her son would receive his diploma this coming June. But after four years of high school, France just learned, her 17-year-old must start over. He’s been moved back to ninth grade.

Walker high has steadily expanded their programs like this.
All public school districts need to. I've told on here about my friend who had multiple computer tech certifications before he graduated. He won the state competition twice. He placed in the top three nationally, and got a full ride scholarship to a technical college which got him all the other certs he needed/wanted and an associate's degree. None of it cost him a dime. On top of that, he got a good job right out of high school. Now, he's one of the top guys at that place and does contract work on the side. Yet, because he was good at math, counselors and teachers tried like hell to talk him out of going to career tech and to enroll in an advanced diploma program instead.

The mom is a total failure at life and she has raised another utter failure

Sounds like the school is living up to its middle name.

In public school, now days, you don’t have to actually do anything.
They can’t fail you.
With no consequences, not much is gonna change

Public schools in America are largely considered to be baby sitters for working parents or those who just don’t give a shite.
Day prisons for kids, job creators for adults.

I am a big time advocate for career tech and vocational programs in public schools
You'd think with as much of the progressive orthodoxy revolves around worship of Western Europe, they would embrace tracking in public schools as Germany has done to great success. What are the reasons they don't? My guesses:
1. Teacher's unions couldn't control it, as educators as we know them couldn't teach blue collar trades or computer science (not the unionized ones)
2. These Progressives don't value trade professionals and don't actually want to see kids under their control go into them, no matter how much it would help them
3. Too deeply entrenched in the higher education bubble and really believe sending Tyrone and his 1.1 GPA to college will make a major impact on his life
4. Something about making lots of money for government officials with zero accountability or consequences
I just want children to have upward mobility, be that from a university education, from trade school, or (my preference) a protectionist economy that values domestic labor over global capital and puts a premium on hiring workers and on the job training.
It should be a point of pride (and a massive tax break) every year for America's largest companies to hire as many American workers as possible.
