I think Los Angeles Public Schools are the harbinger of what's to come.

Less than half the kids in their system are literate.

? In 2019, Black students had an average score that was 36 points lower than that
for White students. This performance gap was not significantly different from
that in 2002 (37 points).
? In 2019, Hispanic students had an average score that was 24 points lower than
that for White students. This performance gap was narrower than that in 2002
(38 points).
? In 2019, female students in Los Angeles had an average score that was higher
than that for male students by 9 points.
? In 2019, students who were eligible for the National School Lunch Program
(NSLP), had an average score that was 15 points lower than that for students
who were not eligible.

75% of black students in California don't meet reading standards.

“Why would he do three more years in school? He didn't fail, the school failed him. The school failed at their job. They failed. They failed, that's the problem here. They failed. They failed. He didn't deserve that.”

Friend of mine taught at a public school. There was a project the students were supposed to complete over the course of a year or half a year. They had project updates every couple of weeks and he told the same students who weren't doing the work that they would fail if they didn't complete the project. He sent notices to the parents and repeatedly warned the kids yet they didn't complete the project and were told the kids couldn't graduate. Of course the parents came unglued. He told them all the opportunities, warnings, and freebies they were given but the parents didn't want to hear it. I think they ended up bitching to the principal enough that she let them all graduate without completing the project.

I’m sure her email inbox, mailbox, and voicemail are full of communications that she is too busy too read or care about.

Our kids miss an assignment, we can see it. The teachers all send out emails, too. It’s bullshiat. I’m sure she has time to look at her phone during the day.

This isn’t a new trend. These inner-city schools have been disasters for 40 years.

You have certain segments of society who haven’t cared about their children’s academics for multiple generations.

Simple solution to that, lower the standards. Problem fixed.

Good Lord that lady. Kid was absent or tardy 272 times and it is the school's fault? This country is lost.

Yea- it probably would’ve been better for her to simply acknowledge she’s working 3 jobs and not as engaged as she needed to be but was leaning on safeguards that didn’t seem to actually be in place (if the story is generally true).

The “my son is embarrassed because the school let him down” doesn’t really play when the son missed 2 out of 3 days over a 3 year run.

Since the start of the year I’ve been working on a project with the city of Baltimore as a contractor, details don’t matter, but higher level people in finance and mayors office.

Whatever negativity you have with the city of New Orleans government, IDK, New Orleans seems incredibly efficient and competent
