Going from 43% to 98% clearance is pretty damn impressive.

Maybe I'm just a cynic, but my guess is that those numbers are more likely the result of creative tabulation rather than near perfect crime solving.

There were 280 homicides in 2022.
Only 40 ish so far this year.
Obviously a lighter case load.
The real question is why.

Thank the next US Marshal or FBI agent you happen to come across. They've both made a huge push to curb crime in the bigger cities in the southeast and other more LE friendly states.
Also, don't underestimate the national guard being deployed. They play a big part as well.

Last year was a damn good year of lower homicides as well, even with the 12 counted in from the terror attack.
The state sent in some cops to focus on getting the worst of the criminals.
The DA was told by someone to do his fricking job. He and his mom were also carjacked in front of her house.
The police chief has gotten the recruitment numbers up a little bit and has improved the morale of the force.
Nation wide, murders have been trending down.

Because the 10 people committing all the murders are either dead or in jail. Say what you want about Grandma Chief, but she’s at least competent, which is much better than many of her predecessors. I kinda like the lady and think she’s doing a nice job. Was very skeptical when LaTeedy hired her.

The police Chief actually is very good despite her appearance . The state police and the feds have been helping out a lot. The DA has been forced to do his job. There are cameras everywhere and the NOPD morale is high again 8 yrs after Mitch tried to destroy them. The city has its issues but it is a much safer place than a few years ago. Need another 200-300 officers to really drive down the crime further The NOPD has at least stabilized its numbers the last few years.

If you left your DNA at a murder scene the past 50 years and they collected it and kept it you are fricked.
You will be caught. Just a matter of time to run the dna through the system and that depends on the individual departments budget.
They solve old murders every single day now. These men cannot believe what they are hearing when the police show up at their doorstep this long after. It’s interesting to watch.
Almost all of these guys are morons so the cops seal deal quickly normally by simply asking do you know this women and show him a picture.
If you say no, game over. If you say yes, be quick witted.

Drones and other technology has really enhanced NOPDs ability to police. You don’t have to rely on neighbors who “didn’t see anything” when you have crime cameras set up everywhere to tell the story.
The new police chief has been a big proponent of bringing in new technology and getting NOPD out the stone ages.

question is...whats the conviction rate look like?
overall hats off to NOPD....but what is the other side at the DAs office doing with those clearences?
hopefully all of these people are being sentenced to 25 plus years
always have to remember, even in a state like LA, roughly 3% of the population is committing 80%+ of the crime
