Maybe I'm just a cynic, but my guess is that those numbers are more likely the result of creative tabulation rather than near perfect crime solving.

Article addresses it.
quote:

As of Aug. 12, 52 people have been killed in New Orleans, and police classified 49 as murders. About two-thirds of the murder cases this year have resulted in arrests. But this year's clearance rate was boosted because several older murders were also cleared in 2026 that are included in the total number of cleared cases.

49 murders as of 8/12. ~32 of this year's murders have been solved (about two-thirds). Which means about 16 cold cases closed.

A New Orleans man convicted of killing two people during a botched armed robbery in Mid-City six years ago will spend the rest of his life in prison after an emotion-filled sentencing hearing Friday. Eric Cloud was 17 when he shot and killed Angel Funez and Niukura Gonzalez, both 25, early on the morning of Feb. 8, 2020 in the 4000 block of Ulloa Street.

So many on this board look down their nose at New Orleans. You should recognize its history and importance.

You are misguided.

We do recognize it’s history and importance. That’s why we bash it. It could be so much better. Top tier world city level even if not for certain things.

I watched “Homicide Squad: New Orleans” on Netflix and the cameras posted around the city helped catch most of the perps.

Waldron GOAT judge to ever sit at Tulane and Broad.

Can you imagine a guy like Dennis Waldron sharing the bench with the likes of Leon Roche? I can’t even begin to comprehend the character disparity.
