I recently watched several videos about the best personal item to bring on a plane. Many YouTubers picked the Osprey Daylite Expandable 26+6 Travel Pack.
Bought one at Academy. Bass Pro and other places also carry them.

I have a couple Topo Designs backpacks and duffels. They’re solid.
Haven’t bought a new one in years though, so not sure about current offerings.
ETA: they used to all be made in USA when I got them. Looks like they outsource most or all to Vietnam now.

Any of the ones i have come off tactical websites. I love the pockets and space to store stuff.
Plus they always have the loops all over that you can clip extra stuff to for added carry g purposes

Was going to recommend a Filson Journeyman like the one I have but it will definitely make your back sweat in hot weather

I have the 35L, can confirm it fits fine under plane seats. Has a laptop slot and a tablet slot, or two laptop slots if you prefer. Had a pocket that fits a Yeti bottle perfect and has a lot of built in organization pockets. Actually comfortable to wear. When I first saw the straps I was underwhelmed but they actually work well. I fly every couple weeks for work and I've been using it for about 6 months.

I heard that Osprey makes a backpack with a lifetime warranty. They practically dare you to destroy it with normal wear and tear. I bought a a $25 Reebok from Sam's Club 15 years ago and it still delivers. Get padded straps, and learn to pack less than everyone else insists you need.

Picked this up from Amazon a while back and it’s been great.. never thought id spend this much on a backpack but now i get it.. iif i live to be 100 yrs old, and it doesnt get stolen - i think it’ll still be with me for 50+ more years.. keep ur eye on Amazon and you can regularly find it on sale for 20-30% off.. warning though, like most high-quality things, it weighs a lot.. im 6’2” and walk around at about 197 or 198 lbs.. so if youre 5’7” with a jacked up F250 then you probably wont like it .
