Was coming to recommend the same. I've been using them for years, highly recommended.

Friend,

I prefer a Durston Wapta as my backpack for day trips.

Get a man purse. Then it won’t rest on your back.

I had a ten year old Osprey the water proof lining on the interior started flaking off. I shipped it to them they sent a new one no questions asked.

Brother. Team Durston, love my X-mid but… managed to score one of these from Gossamer Gear last month. Sold out in minutes. 40 liters, 19 ounces.

Also to the OP, based on what you’re describing, Osprey is a fantastic option

Check out AER. Recently upgraded to a couple of their bags for everyday general use and travel. Wish I had done so sooner.

Really good bags, the city pack pro 2 is perfect as a “personal” item for a flight.

Also check out Evergoods. Doesn’t look as techy as Aer, a bit more minimalist.

General Travel. I use the Box Shot as a personal bag when flying. Also use it on vacations to carry water, ponchos, snacks whatever the wife thinks she needs, ect. It's time to replace and want something not "as hot" on my back.

What's the deal with "ect." ?

I like the osprey stuff. Lots of choices with the vented back.

Third. Had two for 10 years, taken everywhere, parks, Disney World, etc. still look new & lots of compartments. Great back panels that are adjustable.

I have an Osprey Stratos that has been great. They have a frame system were there is a mesh panel that sits against your back and their is an airspace back to where the pack actually is. Works very well and is really comfortable.

I have an Evergoods 26L Civic Travel bag that I use one mostly for air travel as a personal item and for weekend trips. It has a breathable back and it has a luggage slot (or whatever you call the panel where you can stick it over the handle of a piece of luggage). Looks pretty plain and modern without looking tactical, has a padded laptop slot, plenty of partitions that are accessible and one of its best features is that is almost always stands upright on its bottom instead of tipping one way or the other.

It is made exceptionally well and I'd consider it a BIFL item. Comes in 20, 26 and 35L and in Black, Olive or Tan (the latter two do have a bit of a tactical look, which is fine).

I’ve been using a Filson Dryden for 5 years daily for work and there isn’t a torn stitch yet.

Day pack? I can go 5 days easily with that pack. It’s made of a Dyneema derivative which is stronger than steel and waterproof.
I realize how it may seem ridiculous but I’ve been building my ultralight system for years. It’s not cheap but I can crush miles. With all my luxury gear I’m just under 15 sans food and water. If I know the weather will be nice and willing to suffer a little I’m under 10 lbs. Just like any hobby the good stuff gets expensive

Will get downvoted to oblivion, but I have had one of these for years. Tons of storage, good for office or outdoors.

I think they quit making it, but my son bought me an Orvis backpack for Christmas a few years back. I love that backpack. It is a really well made canvas backpack that ages well.
