Until folks start calling these “drug addict camps” rather than “homeless camps” nothing is going to be done.
90%+ of these folks are heroin users.

quote:Gotta realize that pretty much every part of the world has its' own Nomadic Culture. Europe has Gypsies, ME has Bedouins, AU has the indigenous peoples, NA had several nomadic Indian tribes, SA has indigenous peoples that never settle permanently, Africa has some wandering natives too, the Mongols in Asia.
I sat with Sylvester Turner right before the city cleaned a few areas around Houston a couple years ago and discussed exactly this type of thing. He was beyond frustrated saying they had significant investments in homeless shelters that were more long term to help these people get off the street, but they WANT to be on the street and anyone is villainized for trying to clean it up (WHILE TRYING TO HELP THEM).
2 different lifestyles that the world over have always looked down upon each other. The established look down on the wanderers while the wanderers look down on the settled. They are just 2 different mindsets unable to comprehend one another.

Austin has always been a more liberal city, but used to be a really nice and happy place to live amongst everybody. The last 5-8 years have seen an enourmous amount of Californians move here wanting to push their ideals even though it’s ruined their home cities.

I feel a large group of these people have “checked out” of society. For whatever reason they have decided the laws, the economy and the norms of society are not for them. Couple this with the easing of drug and crime enforcement and this is what you get. Portland and Seattle are prime examples of this. Once the mayors (and state legislators) lessened the enforcement of drug and crime laws this problem exploded in those areas. The genie is out of the bottle in the northwest US and will never be out back in the bottle. Denver is not far behind Seattle and Portland from having this issue be beyond control. As for Austin that city longs to be just like Portland and Seattle in so many ways. Well they have taken many first steps to be like them. The young and filthy homeless in New Orleans French Quarter are great examples of this as well. They would rather live in squalor and beg for money with a dog tethered to them than get an actual job and join society. This element has always been in the background. The laws of unintended consequences mainly from the liberal mindset have set this blaze and unfortunately it is here to stay. The rest of society that lives by the norms regardless of political affiliation are left to pay for and put up with this mess.

1 in 5 children in the USA suffers from Hunger issues.
In the meantime, Corrupt Hedge Fund Scumbags and the Wall Street Mafia need trillions more of taxpayers dollars from the Fed to implement the NWO goal to continue expanding the HUGE gap between the rich and poor while destroying the middle class.

This isn't a case of differing cultures. This is a case of the professional "homeless". This wasn't near as big of an issue in uber-liberal cities as it was say 40 years ago. Now, you have people in their 20's/30's, able bodied, CHOOSING to live like this. They choose to live like this because they are allowed to live like this. Their money is spent on drugs. Let's not pretend these are just unfortunate caring families on the street, who just haven't caught a decent break. Good people don't shite on the street in public. These are the willing homeless, that are fed by the state, and choose to squat in encampments because they have easier access to drugs.
This is the result of the liberal agenda. Plain and simple.

If there was an entrepreneurial spirit in this bunch, he'd start a business where you could be a homeless over a weekend.
I'd pay $150 or so for a true homeless experience over a weekend. Something to tell the grandkids.

Rumor is one of those homeless fricks killed someone on Friday to start the year off.
No longer just a rumor
Homeless guy assaulted a random man at Bennuu, then ran into a Freebirds and stabbed two employees, killing one. There have also been stories of homeless men attacking female joggers on South Congress and Town Lake. And the mayor continues to push his narrative that “homeless people aren’t criminals”.

1 culture of responsibility and self reliance that values "a days work for a days pay". The other culture one of carefree self indulgence.
Proves my point exactly too. Unable to comprehend the other viewpoint and mindset, each vilifying the other.
I agree with the Liberals enabling comment though. Like you I don't want my tax money enabling these people and have no desire to enable their ability to camp on streets and in parks and panhandle passersby. If people choose to live a different lifestyle that's fine, just be self reliant, self sustaining.
Animal Control should apply to the homeless too. Call for a pickup, we've got another loose stray animal (this one on 2 legs). And yep, nobody claims in them in a short time, put them "to sleep" permanently.

What’s this got to do with filthy hobo junkies

According to google: In January 2018, 552,830 people were counted as homeless in the United States. I recently took a trip to the west coast and I’m pretty sure there are 500,000+ homeless in Washington, Oregon, and California alone. The amount of tent villages in Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco blew my mind. What’s the real homeless population in this country??

All those Californians should realize they are turning Texas into the very state they ran from.

Austin has welcomed CA into to their town. Their people, their ideas and ideals.
No need to start judging people now.
Although, lessons to be learned.

Austin is a beautiful city but the hobos and junkies ruined it for me. It's depressing and disgusting.
