I drove across south side of Austin yesterday and saw 5 of the homeless encampments that the mayor and city council voted for several months ago. these were along the expressways and literally looked like loaded garbage trucks had dumped their load next to blue traps and cardboard.

Austin banned single use grocery bags several years ago and its a pain to go grocery shopping. the homeless dumps are far worse than grocery bags

I think there is some hypocrisy here

Governor Abbott hopefully gets a hold of this once good looking town. Rumor is one of those homeless fricks killed someone on Friday to start the year off.
Glad I live North Austin

They set up shop everywhere in Portland. Kinda have to be careful not to hit the curb and get charged with homicide.

Oh I know, what really annoys me when you take an exit and right off the road you'll see camps in the grass or small bits of nature. With 30+ hobos that dont give a shite. They also set fires that get out of hand.

Then you have to get people to go out there and clean up after them. Knowing they're just somewhere else destroying the areas. Robbing cars and places to trade and barter.

At a minimum you think CPS would do something about the kids in these setups. Child is on a path to nowhere at this rate.

I agree, I dont know how people get away with certain things here.

But yeah..with that, that's also an obvious target for any child murderer. Rich or poor.

And what amazes me is that those camps are always disgusting and trash is everywhere but if the city comes in to clean it all up, there is this outcry of wrong doing.

I don’t understand why it’s ok to allow people to make a place completely disgusting and awful to look at

Austin is a liberal city, so this is no surprise

All those liberals seem to not care about poor people that have to live on the street. Why haven’t they set up shelters for them or donated to them?

Because liberals are liberal with your money, not theirs.

The savage Comanche just shakes his head looking at what has become of Texas.

I was there this weekend. We were panhandled multiple times in the downtown area.

That child laying there is just heart breaking. I worry about stuff like that a lot.

You don’t bring your own bags? Without plastic bags it’s a pain to shop?

This is after the governor had to come in and clean it up. Was way worse a month or so ago.

I sat with Sylvester Turner right before the city cleaned a few areas around Houston a couple years ago and discussed exactly this type of thing. He was beyond frustrated saying they had significant investments in homeless shelters that were more long term to help these people get off the street, but they WANT to be on the street and anyone is villainized for trying to clean it up (WHILE TRYING TO HELP THEM).

It was a genuine discussion (away from any media) and the man truly does care, but the homeless community is a PIA.
