An attorney has found a solution to what he calls a dangerous intersection in Vestavia Hills (suburb of Birmingham). Some drivers are hitting the curb when turning right onto Highway 31 from Kentucky Avenue so Jill Norris started her crusade to fix this intersection after witnessing several accidents.

"I saw on the first day a person completely blow out their tire in a big truck," said Jill Norris, "The next day I was at the same intersection and saw the exact same thing to a Tahoe."

After that, she posted on Facebook asking if this had happened to anyone else. "Within hours we had 148 comments and story after story," Norris said. Norris says she reached out to ALDOT but didn't get any concrete answers from them.

That's when her father-in-law stepped in. "I like fixing stuff," said attorney Robert Norris, "I like surprising people. It's fun and so I figured I came out and looked at it and said I can fix that." Last week Robert Norris ordered all the supplies online and overnight he drilled holes into the pavement and put up five orange barriers.

Odds are the city will sue him for defacing public property.

When someone gets in a wreck taking that turn too wide they’ll have someone to sue

He did a better job than the public works department, so of course they’ll fine him.

They’re probably livid. I can hear them now: “This shall not stand.”

Sounds like the drivers are dangerous rather than the intersection.

Vestavia was pretty notorious for having shitty drivers.

His orange posts are outside of the white paint. The white paint signifies not to drive past it. Those who opt to drive past it also opt to run into that cave and are then able to find out if their spare is pumped up.

Volunteers.

Sounds like there actually was a problem causing a pretty decent bit of damage. Good on them.

Yeah, the DOT should be ashamed...wouldn't take but a day at the most to put a proper curb there.

Maybe she can get some asphalt answers instead.

Maybe the drivers need to lose a tire or two so they'll learn to drive properly. Better that than hit someone b/c they weren't paying attention.

See, that’s a damn shame. The man used his own money to fix a problem that local government either would have ignored or spent inordinate amounts of money on “studies” and other wastes of funds to ultimately do the same thing or nothing.

Easy to miss at night. It’s poorly designed so congrats to the people who fixed it.

Why? It's just a standard intersection. If you are turning right before you enter the new street you're just doing it wrong. You shouldn't be riding over a curb no matter what.

See!!! He's taking jobs and money away from either the city or contractors. Can't have citizens going around fixing stuff, that's for govt. to do! Of course never mind the fact it's govt. causes the problems in the 1st place to prove their necessity...
