I'd say mid 2000's when everyone was happy. I went to one car show and sat in a loaded ford with leather seats. Thing was sweet. And I can't recall the number, but it was reasonable. That was 2004.
Went straight up to 2008. Then the crash and I don't know what the frick happened to trucks then. Just knew the lots were full of them.

I got a fully loaded GMC crew cab for $100. (Includes a $30k trade in and $20k down)

It is because they are going for the power and SUV market.
So they supe them up a lot...while sacrficing bed space.
You can't get a bed ovee 6 feet anymore.
You can't get a 6 foot bed on an extended cab...

A Chevy Tahoe has basically become a luxury vehicle.
See I just don't agree with this. Chevy is pricing them at luxury car pricing, but at the end of the day it's still just a truck with a cab on the back of it with a few additional seats.
I mean, you could buy a mercedes GLE for the price of a Chevy Tahoe, which is absolute insanity. A mercedes is so much of a nicer car.

Both of these statements are false.

You clearly haven't been inside new Tahoes.

You still can with Chevy or GMC. You can get a crew cab with a normal bed in those brands. Dealer lots are not full of them, they mostly have those stub-tail beds, but they do exist and it isn't to the point where they have to be special ordered.

Gas prices and market crash.

You can get a 8' bed, but have to order it and wait 5-6 weeks.

I know. I know why it happened. But prices really didn't drop. Just fluctuated.

You're blinded by brand bias.
Sure i've been in the new tahoes. It's still a chevy. I'll take the mercedes all day long bruh

So the badges somehow make the features less luxurious? That's pretty ridiculous.

It really is crazy.
I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2016 base model (and I mean base as in my only upgrades are keyless entry and 16 inch alloy wheels) Tacoma and these frickers won't budge on the price. While it's not even close to 50k, or even 40k, for a midsize extremely base model truck it's pretty expensive.

Manufacturers who make 6.75ft truck beds:
Every single one
Manufacturers who make 8ft truck beds:
Every single one
Manufacturers who make 6.5 or 8ft crew cab:
I believe everyone does with the exception of most Dodges (only 3/4 and 1-tons come with a full bed)

The badges don't make it less luxurious, it just IS less luxurious. I've driven multiple rented LTZ Tahoes/Suburbans of the most recent model. The materials and fit/finish do not measure up to our Lexus and I doubt they are up to Mercedes standards either. The newest Tahoe is like a luxury car, it just isn't quite there. The materials are still a step lower than what you get on a real luxury car even though the price, these days, is the same.

The price of the MB is higher when you compare vehicles that are of similar size and capability.

This. Chevy is Tahoe is NOT a luxury car. A Mercedes GLE is. The Mercedes has beautiful wood grain, softer leather, etc. It's just much more refined. Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, etc. In my opinion, if you're going to spend that kind of money, might as well get your money's worth. A Tahoe just ain't worth it.

When trucks went from workhorses to status symbols. Pretty much when gas prices really went sky high years ago.
