At what age can a kid handle staying home alone for a little while?

I can remember being around 7 when my mother would run to the grocery and leave me at home.
I just read an article saying that 12 should be the youngest, but that seems really old and over-protective.

Kids now are fragile, so 22-23

It's apparent that you should never separate children from their parents ever. (See the poli-board.)

Our 10 year old could probably do well on her own, but we couldn't trust her to watch her younger siblings.

completely dependent on the kid, but 9 or 10 seems like a good average age
kids have access to cell phones these days, so it's not like they are completely out of contact

I think 12 would probably be the new norm. I remember being a little younger than that.

10-12 would be a good estimate.

The law says you gotta be older than 10 right? I got off the bus in 1st grade with a key and watched cartoons till my parents got home.

All depends on the child. Some at 8-9 and others at 20-21.

I was CPR certified and baby sitting (for families with babies under 1) at 12 years old fwiw.

Pretty sure I was 11 (start of 6th grade) when my parents let me go home from school every day without them.
I have two younger siblings, so don't remember them leaving all three of us home along before then.

Depends on the kid.
I would leave my 8 year old alone before I would even think about leaving my 10 year old to himself.

I begged my parents to leave me home in my 10-11 aged years.
But honestly, here is how you should think about it:
1. At what age, can i leave my child alone, something happens, and i'm not arrested for child endangerment. Because that is how it plays out these days, especially with the pc laws.

Well we know that is one 30 year-old man out there that never stayed home alone.

Age is just a number. If you believe your kid is mentally ready, start it off slow by leaving them inside while you go for a walk/jog around the block and then work it up from there. I think the main thing is to not make it such a big deal because if the kid views you being gone as a big deal, they will probably go bat sh$t crazy, however if you being gone is no big deal, they will just stay focused on their ipad/tv show or legos while you are gone.

I'd say 10-13 depending on the kid. Just don't tell facebook how you're finally trusting your oldest to stay home by themselves tonight while you go out like my dumb arse sister in law did.

I got my key to the house and started staying home with my sister when I was 10 and my sister was 6.
We had family that lived 3 houses down, Incase something happened.
We made it a lot of summers with those cheap $1 frozen pizzas and patio frozen burritos.

I started testing mine at 8, I'd leave him for an hour or so when I went shopping.
He'd still be sitting in the same place usually when I returned. Playing the PS4.
He started staying home alone all day, if there was a school holiday that we didn't get off for, at age 9. He had a cell phone and we called every hour.

If you were born in the 1980's or earlier, you were definitely a latch-key kid.
