my rule was we started leaving the kids home alone when I had trained them well enough to shoot an intruder with our 12 ga shotgun.

I had a key on a string around my neck when I went to school in 2nd grade. When I got off the bus I went directly in the house and locked the door. Dad got home from work at 4 or so.
We started leaving ours at home when they were 11 and 8. Both boys.

At 6 I would stay home all day everyday of course we are talking 1974-1975. People weren’t pussies back then.

I started walking to and from school in first grade, but there were a few of us that walked the route together and I only had to walk 2 blocks by myself. I would open up the garage, pick up the house phone, and dial my moms beeper so she know I was home. Pretty sure these days she’d get a visit from CPS

Around 14 he is gonna need some extra alone time. So be courteous and let him know how long you’ll be gone and be very loud upon entering the house.
