Many, many of the abusers were.

Wrong. It can be done with discipline and the correct mindset. Just like any other urge (gluttony, avarice, sloth, etc.) sensuality can be completely controlled and is by many people.

I'd like to invite all Catholics who condemn pedophilia to join us in praise and worship. Our doors are open, just push.

Pretty much this. They know they are different, so they go into the ministry to make mama proud and people stop asking when you are getting married. They think their secret will be safe there and they can pray the urges away. Next thing you know they are diddling boys.

Because priests, to a little Catholic boy, are the closest thing to God,” said Christopher ‘Kit’ Bateman, who was 14 when Brett abused him. “That’s what we’re told. That’s what we believe.”

Depraved priests is the point of article and should be. A secondary point is what man teaches about religions to the most impressionable (children) that leave them vulnerable to depravity.

“Closest thing to God”. Or a deprived man yields depraved actions, and is far from divine. Beware of unchecked / challenged religious thought.

Just 40 minutes after the report’s release, the Maryland Senate passed the Child Victims Act, which would remove the statute of limitations on child sexual abuse lawsuits. The legislation is headed to Democratic Gov. Wes Moore, who has said he expects to sign it into law. The Maryland Catholic Conference, which represents all three dioceses operating in the state, opposed the bill at every turn and is expected to challenge it in court.

This is the biggest issue. They know it's a problem and actively try to keep the guilty person's from being punished.

I understand why sexual abuse is rampant in religious settings, especially Catholicism. As horrible as it is it at least makes sense why something like that would attract pedophiles (similar to teachers). What I don’t understand is why once you know someone is diddling kids, you would ignore it, accept it, or even cover it up. Like that makes no logical sense. Even if you argued that the church doesn’t want to lose an already depleted source of priests, they’re fricking child molesters/monsters. Nothing good can come from helping to enable more of that behavior. More kids get abused, and once the story eventually comes out more lives are ruined and the church looks that much worse. So it makes sense to stop it as soon as it is discovered and try to move on more positively.

As a lifelong catholic (though I don’t really practice it much these days), that’s something I’ve never understood. And every time shite like this comes out it just makes the church/religion look even more stupid, evil, etc. It’s stupid.

for the last 20+ years, the catholic papacy has been nothing but anticatholic globalist pedos and groomers

how anyone still thinks they will get back to following the teachings of the bible is just a comical fantasy

They must have run out of the $3 billion in PPP loans the Catholic Church received to pay the settlements

Just like lifelong members of government, they believe the institution is more valuable than someone's life.

As a Catholic, I find it hard, really hard to go to church. The coverups, the massive amount of wealth and they can't take care of the elderly clergy and nuns, the hypocrisy of shaming those who advocated for walls while the Vatican sits behind a massive wall, telling parishioners to cut back on Christmas giving and direct those funds to Ukraine, and several more things that I'll remember later.

I do like our priest and the deacons homilies as they inspire one to self reflect on the message of the Gospel. The church as an institution, I could live without.

Be offended I don’t give a frick. How are some people still “catholic supporters”? You can still believe in Jesus and God but how can you support the Catholic Church after all the child abuse that has been reported? These aren’t isolated incidences it’s everywhere.

Every large scale organization dealing with kids is going to have pedos. Every church has had pedos. Yes the Catholic Church fricked all this up for ions and deserve scorn and much worse but the historical institution and teachings are what people support
