quote:Let me tell ya something. Nowadays, everybody’s gotta go to shrinks, and counselors, and go on “Sally Jessy Raphael” and talk about their problems. What happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, silent type. That was an American. He wasn’t in touch with his feelings. He just did what he had to do. See, what they didn’t know was once they got Gary Cooper in touch with his feelings that they wouldn’t be able to shut him up! And then it’s dysfunction this, and dysfunction that, and dysfunction vaffancul!
See, y’all...... the boomers have this down. frick your feelings. Shut up and live your shitty life. Nobody cares about your problems.

You’re climbing the second mountain, hopefully.

Go read my posts in this thread. That’s exactly what I’m telling people my age.
I learned it from my dad. Not sure how these guys didn’t learn it from theirs.

I hope not. I'm almost OPs age and haven't hit that stage. If anything, it seems like I give less of a frick as time goes by.
I absolutely give less of a shite what most people think about me with every passing year.

I've always been a "what you see is what you get" kind of guy, but maybe even more so now, I absolutely DGAF about what anyone thinks of me anymore

I'll take a crack. The older you get the less testosterone you have. It opens you up to being more emotional... ??
I'm in my 40s and I'm mostly just bored all the time

I look back on the 'good times' as much as anyone but it got better for me when I stopped looking at every year as just being another year older and started looking at is as another year that I lived.

That ain't a Boomer trait. Boomers were louder and more entitled than that. They protested everything, remember? That's a pre-Boomers, depression era attitude.

Fallguy,
The new recommendation, from the American Cancer Society, for colonoscopy is 45. I don't know if the docs or insurance companies are allowing/pushing this new recommendation or not since a couple of other groups are staying with the 50-75 recommendations.
I know if I had a colonoscopy at 45 I would be in much better shape now. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at 48.
Don't put it off, the consequences can be dire
