Same here. Made the move 2-1/2 years ago and it has been great for my family. Better schools, almost no crime and cheaper real estate.

Yes I was ready before this year but family keeps me here. I have a widowed mother that won't leave because she too has a widowed mother and family here. I even left and came back.

I think at the very least Ill split time. I have some property I'm going to build a metal hurricane proof building with an apartment on so I can come stay when needed but we will be leaving eventually. We were house shopping in January then took a wait and see what the market does approach due to COVID. My wife is out of state looking at places this week actually.

Well, that’s good for you and bad for us. Invite everyone down once you get it built. I’ll bring a boat and beer.

The company I work for has offered me a desk job in Nebraska several times already, and I'm likely going to take it.

I travel for work and have been to all lower 48 repeatedly. Nebraska was the saddest place and I can’t think of a close second.

it is very difficult to find a rational or logical answer to sell staying in LC

rebuilding a life in an area of prosperity is better than maintaining a decent life (for now) in a dying area

Louisiana is dying, and there isn't a good likelihood it can improve

Same here. Leaving Louisiana was the best thing I've ever done. You don't realize just how screwed up Louisiana is until you leave it.

Family and friends is the only reason that makes sense to me why someone would stay there

You have shitty politicians everywhere, you have some sort of natural disaster everywhere and any place with a sizable population has crime. It’s what you make of it. You can be miserable or happy anywhere.

I choose to stay and make it better, no matter how small the change. It’s home. I’m not transplanting.

And the jobs pay less because the cost of living is less.

the cost of living isn't THAT much less in many areas, especially if you want to live in a city that has something to offer...or you live in suburbs and pay that cost in other ways (like time)

put it this way: what city (over 70k population) has public schools you would send your kid to willingly?

i sold myself on this 5-6 years ago but it's just not possible

demographics won't allow change and are only going to get worse

ideally i'd find a living strategy in pretty, safe areas like somewhere in Colorado, SLC, Boise, etc

maybe that over-grown SC/NC/TN area that's become so popular

i used to want to find that emerging spot before it got hot, but i haven't been doing research lately

The hyperbole some of you will enlist to justify personal decisions is astounding.
