I have. I was born and raised were I live. I have 1 relative a further south in LA that I care about and 1 in San Antonio which is relatively close. The remainder of my relatives that I deeply care about are here as well as numerous very close friends. My business also can't just be picked up and moved without a substantial interruption in business. I also love a lot about Louisiana. But the politicians (including the horrid state GOP), crime and hurricanes weigh heavy on me. No place is perfect and that is what I keep telling myself.

Not true. There are places out there that don’t have to worry about natural disasters that would have any serious impact on your home. You just have to do your research.

The hurricanes aren't the reason - really its that I love that area and have a good work opportunity. But getting away from a lot of bullshite is definitely high on my list, lower cost of living relative to NOLA, etc.

Same here. Made the move 2-1/2 years ago and it has been great for my family. Better schools, almost no crime and cheaper real estate.

I got the go ahead to work remote before the pandemic. I had already purchased some property on the Teche last year and sold my house in Helena back in May.

Amen. Louisiana will always be where I'm from, but getting out was the best thing I've ever done. It changed my life and made me a better, more complete person. Growing up in south I grew up in NELA, though, so maybe growing up in NOLA or SWLA is different.

I'm only still in LA because of my wife's parents/kids' grandparents. I figure in 10 years I'm out of here, regardless. The kids will be grown.

Now if you were talking about the excessive insurance rates due to the shitty climate of civil liability and trashy people without insurance, then you would have an arugment.
