I haven't done research on schools in cities with larger populations but I'd guess not many. Maybe some in the northwestern part of the country where there is less trash. Like you said though, you'd have to live in the suburbs. From what I can tell, Louisiana has some of the most inexpensive suburbs in the nation. Sure, I could move to Nashville or Asheville and make 10k-20k more but my taxes would be more, I'd pay at least $100,000 for the same house, gas and some food would be more expensive, and I'd be further out (prob 45 mins to an hour) from the city then I am now (10 minutes).

Its always in the back of my mind. The issue is that my business is here and it would be very, very difficult to relocate. I would essentially have to start over professionally. But one day we may have to.

all the time

the only thing keeping me here is family, but if the right job opportunity comes up, I'll leave in a second

We really like NW Arkansas, as if fits all of our criteria, except job market for myself, as I'm in a bit of a niche market, unfortunately

What demographics have changed so much in the past twenty or thirty years that make you think a point of no return has been hit?

No place is beyond repair, no place is some heaven on earth. Travel shows you that all this “This place is so much better than Louisiana” just isn’t true. I’ve seen the entire country. Some places are beautiful and I love seeing as much of it as possible, but nothing has made me say, “Oh yeah, this is where I should be.”

To each their own, but anyone claiming definitively that some place is so much better is based on opinion.

We did move and had to be evacuated multiple times for wildfires or floods. We are back in La now and love it. Every place has its pros and cons.

here is one

and this is a national graph, but it's just to show this isn't about one race or anything. LA has lower class mentality in all races:

LA will be that graph on steroids

go look up any indicator of the LA population with respect to societal pathologies and it ain't getting better

how are you going to deal with that, both political and just societally? how do you have a complete reversal of 30 years of trends, and why wouldn't that take 30 years itself to reverse?

it would probably take more time to fix b/c lots of the educated people who would offset our lower class population have left. we have steadily lost this population each year while the lower class population is exploding.

Time to take off those rose colored glasses man. Your locations have tremendous problems you don’t want to see, yep they have scenery but plenty of traffic and backwards political issues namely liberals (nc/sc/tn), Boise is full and col sucks.
There are no perfect jobs or places to live.

There are plenty.

One of the main reasons we moved to Knoxville was the good public schools. Not every one is fantastic, but most are, and the cost of living is less than BR even in areas zoned to the best schools.

Damn, 53%. I knew it was probably high but I didn't think it was that bad.

If I ever decide to leave my current job, we are 90% certain we will leave the State. I have a young family, and make about 75-80% of what I could make on the open market; but it's relatively stress free and 40 hours is a busy week. I could not ask for a better work/life balance considering I have a young family (2 kids under 5).

My decision to leave has absolutely nothing to do with Hurricanes. Education system, crime, politicians, etc.

Worst case, I am here for another 15-20 years; then off to retirement somewhere else.

Have thought about it for later in life. I have stepkids, so that's a minimum for about 8 more years that we have to stay close to their dad. But then I think again. I move, my parents are getting old and no one to go and see about them. I'm an only child. My mom already lives about 3 hours from me and if/when she gets bad off, that's a challenge enough to see about her. I love my small town life. I love my culture as well. There is no place in this country that has the same feel as Cajun country. I love it and can't imagine being in another state.

Well no, but there are a lot of areas around the country that do have their own unique feel the same way that SWLA does.

Every state has piss poor politicians(some worse than others). Every state has high crime areas. The crime tends to be mostly isolated. Every state has natural disasters.
