I honestly don't even know what a data center is.

I see you left out how they're building an absurd amount coal plants too. Over 50 in 2025 alone.

And we are building one in Louisiana in the middle of no where and what's the big complaint?

Wasting valuable farmland. If all you look for is negative, you will find it.

A place where your personal data will be mined by humans and non humans to make a handful of folks super wealthy by mining your data and selling it to folks you don't know while you work as a wage slave to pay your bills and receiving not a single penny from this information resale.

Well that doesn't sound very good at all. Anyways, I get it. It's like a server farm

While china is building a massive amount of solar farms, they aren’t decommissioning any coal and are rapidly increasing their capacity as quickly as possible.

China is the world’s biggest CO2 emitter and it’s because they use lignite coal. Don’t trust China. China is asshoe

Think of "the cloud" on steroids

I am amazed we bought that sham so easily. Your data is not is a fluffy cloud but a server farm that you have no control over and are unable to monitor when the owners mine your files and sell this information without consent or financial payment.

Imagine if I lived in your house and took from you and stalked you 24 / 7 / 365. That would land my butt in jail. Yet a "cloud" can do the same and nobody raises an eyebrow in disgust or disbelief.

Because they're also building 6 750MW power plant units to run it. Which despite how much they "pinky promise" that it won't raise residential electricity/Entergy rates; nobody believes them.

Throw in the compounding effect of natural gas demand to run these power plants; the additional CLECO/SWEPCO/AEP plants that they're building, and our electricity rates are going to have a significant jump over the next 5 years.

And that's if everything goes smoothly with the Public Service Commission/Entergy/Data Center mandatory agreements.

Doesn’t China build theirs in the ocean to use sea water for cooling?

Why are we using tons of land and our own fresh water to run these places that no one has a grasp on the reason for their existence?

I suppose they’ll draw water from CLECO lake, reportedly they’ll use a closed loop cooling system.

I think that one is using well water for their cooling. The only one that I've seen that will use surface water is the Amazon north west of Shreveport that will draw from Caddo Lake. All the other ones around the state (so far) will use city/municipal water or have their own well.

Your whole post was opinion and factually incorrect. There are many issues which have been pointed out already in this thread. If you choose not to acknowledge them, that's up to you.

I'm against AI and data centers but that cat is out of the bag. It's the American way to see an upcoming weapon to use against us and throw everything at it in an overwhelming fashion.

well maybe dont be a low iq dumb frick and learn to use AI to automate daily task and to make you 3x more productive and use it to teach you things you never knew how to do before

or use it to create apps, even if only web based, that makes you money.

some of you are so fricking scared to learn new things and would rather come on here and just bitch

no matter what industry you are in, you can use AI to make your productivity at least double.

I just said I was against it, but hell, I use it. It is very nice to simply ask a question and get immediate results for a study I was looking for rather than spending an hour looking for it. My field is specialized so AI isn't always correct. Not yet anyway
