More strain on a power grid that for whatever reason the gov/private industry will not upgrade. Doomed to fail.

I just said I was against it, but hell, I use it. It is very nice to simply ask a question and get immediate results for a study I was looking for rather than spending an hour looking for it. My field is specialized so AI isn't always correct. Not yet anyway
but why are you against it? what exactly about it bothers you?
the stats show its almost all recirculated water now, they are mainly building their own power plants, mainly built in middle of no where
would you rather us turn it over and let china build them all?
and AI is only going to be as smart as the information you feed it. my field is specialized too and i use it all the time.
you can use it to automate task
create dashboards and feed it tons of reference material that you can have it search and recall data quickly and easy so you dont have to search quick and easy.
you can ask it to pull certain reference manuals and tell it to give you page numbers for certain items so you dont have to sit there and research etc
not to mention you can use them to build apps while talking in plain language and have it do all the coding for you
AI is not going to replace most people, People who learn to use AI efficiently to 2x or 3x their productivity will though.

well allow them to build their own mini nuke reactor.

China going all in on solar and EVs while convincing the US to hold ourselves back.
oh yea china is really doing a great job of that huh? leaving out the fricking part about them building coal plants at a pace we have never seen before
its real simple, the US should set a goal that by 2050 50% of all the Power in the US should be from nuclear and by 2075, 95% should be from nuclear. All new AI centers should have to be build with mini nuclear reactors to power them.

Yea China is going to be the world's largest producer of EVs by a LOT. Most people on the globe buying cars will be buying Chinese EVs in 20 years.
Probably won't ever be a thing here, but china (duh), ocenia, europe, africa and south america will be buying the shite out of chinese evs.

Ok? China has the largest and most dominant renewables portfolio in the world and they just announced today a plan to increase that capacity by over 50% in the next 5 years.
I'm not even a renewables guy (I'm in oil and gas) but I'm just laughing at the notion that anti-data center sentiment is driven by china but anti-ev/renewables sentiment is totally organic despite the fact that China very openly is trying to be the world supplier of solar and EV and it's biggest (only?) potential competitor is very clearly the United States.

i wasnt saying they werent. and most cars will eventually be EV but have to have the grid to support that.

yea i dont believe that at all. sorry I dont trust them or shite they say

im in O&G too but that is not what people are saying. they are saying its a chinese pys-op because china wants to control AI and be the leader in data centers and doesnt want to compete with us. has zero to do with solar or EV or anything of the sort
its very very well known that china is openly contributing to anti data center rhetoric.

And they’re going to grow that without the US market participating which is insane but they’re doing it.

And they want to be the leaders in renewables and EVs too. Hence my OP stating that the anti-ev/anti-renewable sentiment in America is a chinese psyop. The world will *eventually* be driven by EVs and renewables. China wants to be sure their only/biggest competitor (USA) is mired in political infighting regarding those industries while they happily pour trillions into them.

A ton of facilities produce their own power OR pay above residential rates.
Not in my neck of the woods. These massive facilities will get their tax break, and a cut rate for water and power.

how much you want to pay for power?
huh? nuclear is cheaper.

No. It is not.
Nuke is about the same as a gas peaker.

It’s funny how everyone becomes an expert on these things overnight because they read what their cousin posted on Facebook.
Umm…yeah
Extremely valuable resources. They’ll likely get a lower rate than residents, contrary to what was posted later in here. Water is a serious issue in many communities right now, and city councils will tell you when you can wash your car, but these folks won’t be restricted.
The new jobs are often touted as a benefit, but isn’t the purpose of AI to make things easier and more efficient, thus eliminating jobs elsewhere? If you work in maintaining the equipment, you’re set. If you are in a job market that will lay off employees due to enhanced AI, you’re fricked.
And the equipment? When these data centers are obsolete, what happens to all the equipment? Does it go into a landfill? Are there chemicals that can pollute the earth?
The powerful people want to make this a partisan issue, but it shouldn’t be in reality.

it will not be driven by renewables. they can pour whatever the frick they want it to it. renewables are shite and cost way more.
go watch the scene in landman. yea its fake but pretty much everything he said is correct. renewables are dog shite. Nuke power is the future period.
i agree EV is the future on cars but not anytime soon in america as we prefer to drive longer distances. let market forces handle that.
i really give two fricks what china does in terms of EV or renewables, i wish they would go more towards that as it cleans up air more. but overall that shite doesnt affect me much. being anti AI data centers will though

Trump has done more in the last 6 months to advance adoption of EVs than any president before him.

upfront it is but over time that normalizes. nuclear power cost trends down over a 25 year span
i get the cost per Kwh but mini nuclear reactors are the future imo.
