This is going to be a relic of the past, if if you do see one their name tag is going to have a giant "They, Them" tag hanging on it.

I was so nervous for my first physical after being told I had to show my little weenie to a guy, but walked in and it was a gorgeous woman. Didn’t mind physicals from then on with her. Saddest day ever when I moved and couldn’t go back.

Females are certainly better at being Mrs than men.

Bedside manner is not what is going to fix what is wrong.

Bedside manner, and the tendency to listen well, has A LOT to do with diagnosing illness. If a doctor can’t, or won’t, help me understand the situation he, or she, will not be my doctor.

Id say Women Dr's are better listeners and more empathetic but the best Dr's I've experienced were mostly white males who were pretty much arrogant pricks but they knew what they were doing.

My father was a physician and often pointed out that patient perception of doctor excellence was typically associated with the bedside manner rather than the quality of care provided. So much so that if something bad happened the person most likely to be sued for malpractice was not the person who made a mistake. It's the person who is perceived as rude. Stereotypically a surgeon with a God complex would end up sued rather than a softer personality (even if the surgeon had not made a mistake)
100% true

One of the coolest medical studies had patients watch videos of physicians interacting with patients in an office setting. No volume on the video. Solely based on body language the study participants were able to accurately guess who had or had not been sued. Pro tip to young docs here: sit down when talking to your patient. Studies show patients perceive you as spending more time with them if you’re sitting.

This matters more than bedside manner. Get the diagnosis. Legendary physician sir William Osler's famous saying was, “Listen to your patient, he is telling you the diagnosis.” He’s not wrong.

Men?

I think you misspelled emotional women.

The best nurses I’ve ever worked with have been male. They tend to be more knowledgeable than the female nurses, more proactive, and frankly more chill/less anxious. They’re also more direct if there’s a conflict. I’ve had some lose their cool on me but then we talk it out, it’s done, and we move forward without tension. Female nurses will gossip behind your back and be petty. They will also report you to higher ups for absolute nonsense. What do you know, gender dynamics don’t change just because you’re in healthcare.

I’ve only ever had male doctors. I’ve seen plenty of women NPs. I’m not opposed to a woman doctor and I don’t actively screen them out. It just hasn’t occurred.

Sounds like you need a therapist and not a doctor.

In general, I do not think women doctors are better than men doctors.

It depends on the person. I have had arse hole and bitchy doctors.

It’s like any job, the doctors that actually care, will do as best as they can.

Holy shite a take from you I agree with.

Look no further than this board to see who the more emotional gender is.

I've seen men do downright embarrassing things for the acceptance of other men. it's weird.

last time the practice I used to go to got one of these - he was maybe 28 years old

This was during Covid, so I couldnt bring my him husband with me. I was 39 at the time and I called the doctor out on his flirting (I had sprained my ankle and he told me how pretty my feet are and what good shape I was in ) and he said ‘you don’t know how many women fall for it’

Crazy. I have a female doctor now but I still take my husband with me

That’s usually true for most professions

I don’t care if my doctor is an a-hole, as long as he knows what he’s doing
