None wanted to mentioned all the dealer markups, (market adjustments, paint protection, tint, etc). It was like pulling teeth.

I bought my truck from Beck and Masten in south Houston and the only add on game they refused to budge on was the protection package that added wheel locks and some extra security thing. Being in south houston and only selling BUicks and GMCs they said they put it on every vehicle no matter what

Tbh I would be perfectly fine if the new car industry went fixed price across the board. Here is price..buy or not. Same for all.

Get rid of sales people completely.

The idea they get to sit around and try to screw people all day is pathetic. Cars are a necessity…regardless of the niceties some have.

When I bought my car in 2021, I knew exactly what I wanted. Tried to go directly to the manufacturer, that's when I found out LA (an many other States) actually require you to go through a dealership. Therefore, you will never be able to get rid of the sales people.

Ended up having to pay an extra $1k delivery fee to have the car redirected from a MS store to the LA dealership by me; still bought off the truck and drove off the lot with 7 miles on it

We're in the market for a new 4Runner but I'm waiting for things to cool down a bit. I know the new body style should come out in a couple of years but at least the current model is bulletproof which is why we want a 4Runner.

The market has cooled significantly the last few months. Dealer inventories are starting to build, and prices at the auction have fallen fast.

I would expect them to still advertise at or above MSRP. But they will low ball the shite out of your trade.

We have been looking for a little while and starting to get emails asking if we are still interested at basically MSRP. I expect negotiation is on the table, depending on the type of vehicle you are looking for.

I do think the days of market adjustments are over except on the most in demand vehicles.

I can't see myself ever paying current truck prices. Either they come down or I'll just drive an older used one.

Used car prices are stoopid high too. You're going to pay the same percentage higher for used and new vehicles alike.

Exactly what, and why, I am looking for one. Looking for a TRD PRO, but the lowest I can find is $1295 in bs adds. No markup, though.

You do know they sell cheaper trucks don't you?

I get it though, it is insane these days. 8 or 9 years ago I shopped for a used truck for a while and even back then the used ones that were under five years old just seemed too much to me. I got a new Frontier. Yeah I know, not a real truck, but it served me well.

I bought my current truck in 2017. It wasn't brand new but only had 8k miles on it. Pretty much the exact same truck is 60% higher today than what I paid for it.

Dealerships may be feasting now but the direct to consumer model will kill the dealership.

And then the mfg will raw-dog us instead of the dealers.

Direct to consumer is not the panacea we feel it is. I'm not defending dealers but the mfg is no better.

We want a TRD PRO as well but I haven't started looking seriously. I just check cars.com daily to get an idea of the inventory levels. 184 units for the entire U.S. isn't much.

We'll hold off as long as possible to get a fair deal.

On Twitter, @GuyDealership is a used car guy who has some interesting insights into the state of the auto retail market (mostly used, of course). He's worth checking out.

As for me, I'm waiting until January 2025, when my Mazda will be 15 years old.

Cutting out the middle man is bound to save money. If the mfg can't sell, they will discount

Once again, most states have laws on the books prohibiting manufacturer to consumer sales. The manufacturers also tried setting up a few service facilities to perform warranty repairs, they didn't last long. The dealerships are here to stay for the near future.

Talking about actual costs to the dealer, not the sales price of the car. I didn't make the 100s of percent claim but if you figure what they may actually have invested in a car that is sold as soon as it hits the lot they may make multiples of that in profit.

Go over the holdback period where they have to make financial payments on the cars, they have substantial carrying costs and liability, and then their potential ROI starts dropping fast.

They Hyundai dealer in Gonzales isn’t marking up, at least they weren’t a few months ago. I’ve had Hondas for the past 20 years but the markup just pissed me off and Hyundai has better warranty and free regular maintenance for 3 years. The Honda guys kept calling and basically threatening me, “You’ll never find another car this good if you don’t buy this one now!”

Don’t be afraid to walk out.

In March I bought my kid a 2022 loaded civic. Bought at Ascension Honda, they were the only dealer within 150 miles that had the car. We paid about 3k over but they gave us all the $ on the trade. Recently the car got totaled and I went back to them again. Insurance gave us about $4k over plus TTL. They offered either $4k in “accessories” or straight $2k over sticker. I bought on that because everyone wanted a bit more over sticker. We had a handshake at that price no extras. Well I get the invoice and it has $500 for vin etching. They let me walk over that. Since I was paying cash and didn’t have a trade they said that’s where they were stuck and let me walk.
