Any suggestions on how to find out if a dealership is only charging MSRP? I will probably be in the market for a mid sized truck in the next year.

You or your friend at the credit union are idiots, there's not 100"s of percents markup on vehicles. Before this madness hit you likely paid more in taxes on the purchase price than dealer markup.

And they probably get it because what else are you going to get?

Used C8s are still $95k+.

There is on their actual costs if they sell before the holdback term expires. In other words, the return on their investment prior to the sale, not the invoice cost of the vehicle.

100s of percents? You realize the math you're implying?

Please explain what you mean there. The holdback amount on most vehicles is 3% with markup from invoice to MSRP averaging around 5.5 percent fro domestic vehicles. How does this add up to 100 percent roi?

This isn't reality.

So the dealership doesn't pay the salesperson for that sale, doesn't have any other fixed overhead to cover out of the sale of said vehicle? It's all pure profit? That must be nice, it sure isn't how it worked when I owned a dealership.

Also, if one is in the market for a car right now, there's no rule against going cheap and low for a year or two. If all cars are +15%, that 15% hurts a lot less when the price of the car is $20k instead of $80k.
You can also do alot of $3k repairs for $20k @ 15%, much less $80k.

What's so wrong with having an older vehicle?
I never understood how a car became a status symbol for middle class families.
It's actually advertising how dumb you are with money by spending so much on a depreciating asset.

Agree. Maybe in 50 years we will all be cruising around in vintage cars like Cuba.

I can't see myself ever paying current truck prices. Either they come down or I'll just drive an older used one.

A vehicle just isn't worth 50k+ to me.

Good luck if it is the same as when I bought a new car last year.

Was in the market last year at this time and trying to find out the true price via phone or email was a game in and of itself. It was almost impossible to get them to say what their price was. None wanted to mentioned all the dealer markups, (market adjustments, paint protection, tint, etc). It was like pulling teeth. Let’s just say I have a list of dealerships within a decent size radius of the Baton Rouge area that I will never buy a vehicle from again because of their games. frick them.

Ended up at a Honda dealership in Mississippi, who were the only ones I could find not playing the add on game

Yes, I'm not in the market but I want a new vehicle so I stay looking. Now that the used car market has tanked I can't get as much for my vehicle either.

So it puts me in a worse spot than before, three months ago my car was valued at 22k now with only 4k more miles its valued at 11.3k. Nothing else has changed but the mileage.

this is something people usually miss when you hear "wait for prices to go down."
Same with the housing market/interest rates.

Dealerships may be feasting now but the direct to consumer model will kill the dealership.

Same here. As things stand now, I can’t ever see myself buying a new car again.

I paid just under. About 1500 bucks

Took me months to get there.

Worst is dealing with these texas clowns that advertise rebates. But then you dont qualify because you don't live in texas.

Finally started email with my price and one bit out in west texas. Took about 4 months in total from first negotiations

Also kept the old yota. Its probably worth 10k in a private sale but only got offer 7k from trade in. Told em ill keep it for that. Saves miles on the new truck

Most states have laws against car manufacturers selling direct to the public.

Pigs get fat. Hogs get slaughtered.
They are killing their own livelihoods, especially when they are rubbing it in everyone's faces.

Manufacturers are just going to cut out the middle man.
No real need for them in the digital age.
