Are they killing the obnoxious "Start-Stop System"? I hope so

Just to piss you off, I agree with every word of your manifesto. (Even though I didn’t read any of it).

You troll, but I actually know a girl who did a similar deal and thought she had gotten a great deal. Her new car gets 1mpg better and her monthly note barely went up.

In my Lexus RX350 FB group, the consensus is to get a 2017 RX350 as those were the best ever made.

They won’t ever just kill it, but as long as they give us the button to turn it off then I can live with it. I’m always amazed when I encounter people who don’t disable that shite. Light turns green and a dozen cars start up.

In the Toyota tundra Reddit sub, chock full of Tundra fanboys, there are countless posts about failed new engines and how the new model just sucks in reliability compared to the old models. These are people biased towards Toyota. It’s hard to believe a statistic that says the newest cars are the most reliable ever, unless those statistics are including cars from the 2010s.

The last 7-8 cars and trucks I've purchased have had basically zero issues, but I'm not wasting my time on populating their database.

I hope not.
Partly b/c of that initiative, more Americans have negative equity in their vehicles than ever before.

It's a matter of population sample. Yeah if you include cars primarily from the previous era (which exist in larger number than more recent models) the "reliability" metrics for the entire time period will free ride off their reliability. As the new generation becomes a larger portion of that sample population (and more reliable older cars leave the sample), I imagine that's going to lead to dramatic shifts in the reliability rankings.

I’m still fighting with the wife she wants me to dump the 03 6speed Cummins. Anything plastic, rubber, leather or cloth is rotting around the engine and transmission.
But simply it’s bullet proof. I will never buy anything for myself newer then a 07ish I just don’t need it or want it.
Contemplating a fummins swap into a 06-10 ford. They have what I think is a shite diesel and transmission but man the interior and for the most part electrical has held up. So I’m seriously looking at cost for a engine transmission swap gunna have to do it in direct defiance of the wife though… but it would be better then the rotten plastic dash, doors and continued rot of electrical bugs that I deal with every couple months

Many of JD Power's "reliability issues" are from a lot of people not knowing how to use some of the UI features found on today's cars.

Unfortunately I think you’re correct.

My go-to vehicle is a 2005 Ram 250 Diesel pickup with minor rust starting to show up. We have a broad choice of 9 registered vehicles to drive ranging from 1917 to 2012 and I don't plan on buying newer ever.
Two years ago, on our 60th anniversary, the wife and I took the truck on a road trip through several states and a lot of the northern Rocky Mountains up to Canada. We started at 253,xxx miles and put on an additional 4,4xx miles over the next two weeks. Found one batch of poor fuel but no other problems. Finally had to do the first major repair when the transmission acted up last month. Paid more for the repairs than the vehicle was worth on the market but, to me, it was a bargain to keep "old reliable" on the road.

Still driving my V8 2006 Tundra. Great truck. Even the guys at the Toyota shop are telling me to hang on to it. Haven't had anything besides maintenance, ie oil changes, Timing belt, etc.

I think you'll find 3 cylinders in the Buick now. Ugh.
