Apologies...

I see this running rampant in a lot of threads. More just an overall question.
Am I the only one that doesn’t have any problems with anyone apologizing?
Does it really matter either way? If someone asks you to apologize do you dig in or just do it?
Do you feel like apologies indicate strength or weakness? Willingness to consider another side or backtracking from a conviction?
What’s your personal stance on apologies?
ETA: sorry in advance.

If I've done something wrong I have no problem apologizing. If I haven't I will not apologize just to smooth things over.

You need to apologize for your thread title.

I was taught that It takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong.

People are free to do what they want.
However, I've never understood the need to apologize for my gender, religion or skin color just because others emotionally over compensate for injustices that are out of my/their control.

If you did nothing wrong then you shouldn’t have to apologize. I thought that was pretty clear cut to the human race.
If you apologize for something a) you did something wrong. b) or you didn’t and you just want to shut someone up (works well in an argument you’re tired of) c) you didn’t but you’re a cuck in general.

It's not just about that though. On the surface it is, I guess.
Conservatives had a collective nervous breakdown over a black dude being president. That hasn't stopped really. They are also, more recently, coming to grips with the magnitude of their defeat in the culture war at large. Read any conservative site. There was despondency beneath the surface even when they controlled every branch of government.
It isn't about just an apology. They're terrified and the world is a zero sum game now

If you’re referring to killing of George Floyd, I will not apologize for something I haven’t done, nor do I agree with, just because I share the same skin color with the guy who killed him. Apologizing implies fault. I am not at fault in any way.
If you’re referring to Drew Brees, people take issue because it was a forced apology where he gave into the mob mentality, and he did absolutely nothing wrong except share his own viewpoint.

No. I don’t think government needs to be legislating “culture wars”.

Paul Ryan isn’t a conservative. Nor is Justice Roberts.

I’m not terrified. But I don’t think a zero-sum “game” is ideal. Differences of civil opinion is what actually allowed the United States to become the leader of the free world.

Remember Michael Richards (Kramer)?
He said the n-word in a fit of anger at a heckler. He was demonized, and has been absolutely the most remorseful person that has ever been called out by the PC mob.
Guess what that got him? Not a goddamned thing. He still lost all his contracts, gigs, and can't find any work. Find any comment section that mentions him today and he is regularly spit on despite the sincere apology.
Don't apologize.

As a Christian I believe apologies (I prefer the word Repentance) exist as a means for me to address a sin I have committed against another person. It is how I admit wrong and give the person an opportunity to forgive me and therefore remove the offense from between us. Apologies for sins I have not committed or so I can feel good or to appease the masses is an absolute perversion of the existence of this thing called repentance that find sacred. I got too many concrete sins to apologize for and make right to worry about these nebulous undefinable sins we are being called to apologize for.

What’s your personal stance on apologies?
Not when someone wants me to make them some how feel superior.

It starts with an apology. Then an apology is not enough and they will demand more.

This. As far as the flag is concerned, I wouldn't kneel, but if someone wants to, they can. To each their own, but if you're going to kneel, do it based on YOUR convictions and not someone else's (i.e. think for yourself). Furthermore, be respectful towards others, even if they don't agree with you. I have a bigger problem with stupidity then I do with protesting. I also have a problem with burning or stomping on the flag, but kneeling? Nah.
