It's filthy, and I would NEVER do it.

LOL - We just discussed this at Thanksgiving. I was raised catholic, but haven't practiced organized religion since I left home. Love to get my parents all worked up about it. My Mom blasted my brother and I with he whole Transubstantiation thing, and it's God's blood which can't be contaminated. It's an awesome time and old Catholics will work you out over it.

I'm a practicing Catholic and I had this same discussion with one of my neighbors who is a Eucharistic Minister. He said, "you don't think God would let you get sick from drinking from the chalice do you"? I said, if that's the case then why does he let kids get cancer?

I heard a saying one time: America is the only country where it's acceptable to put your mouth on another person's genitals but it's disgusting to eat a potato chip off the floor. This can fall into that category.

You're right. My mother is as devout as they come but even she doesn't drink it for sanitary reasons.

Other denominations do communion as well.

The Baptists use grape juice though.

When younger, my uncle stole all the communion wine and drank it. In a panic, he replaced it with moonshine tinted with grape soda.

My paw paw said the poor old priest took his first sip and then could not stop coughing in the middle of the sacrament.

He got his arse beat for that one.

My church uses red. Your church needs to step it up.

I went to a Presbyterian church for a while and you had a choice to drink from the cup or use little cups- they passed both around. Most did drink from the cup except during cold and flu season.

It's wine. If it was blood nobody would drink it unless they are vampires, cannibals, or in some kind of occult.

And yes, I have drank some wine out of the cup in church once.
