Family member has a '96 4Runner. Still runs great. Needs shocks but body is still solid for its age.

We have a 2014 Camry. Rock solid car, change the oil every 5-6K miles. Tires every few years & brakes. Wouldn't trade it for a crappy brand new domestic vehicle.

I've driven my 2003 Tundra 176,000 miles and never spent a penny on repairs. Timing belt was replaced by warranty. Service manager called me at 96,000 miles (warranty expired at 100,000) and told me to bring the truck in and the belt would be replaced free of charge. Labor was also free.

Toyota engines are better, everything else is the same as any other car.

I think historically they are as reliable as stated. Since they have gotten rid of the 5.7 and going away from their ultra reliable V6 in the Tacos and 4 runners. Not so much.

I traded in our Camry earlier this month, bought in 2005. We drove it for 19 years.

I have a Corolla with 210k miles and all I’ve ever had to do to it is basic maintenance.

all cars made in the last 10 years are disposable junk. Toyotas and Hondas are just a little less so.

Toyota the past few decades was worth every bit of reliability praise.

Toyota the past couple of years and into the near future, they have lost that reliability edge with a shitload of problems in these new engines

In the 1990's, compared to the shite box cars domestic manufacturers put out, Toyota and Honda were far better in terms of build quality and reliability. Pretty much anything imported then was better, I had a 1995 Nissan Maxima that was a great little sedan. Only the American full-size trucks and SUV's were worth buying back then.

I had a 2004 Ford Ranger I put 240k+ on it before I sold it, all it ever needed was basic maintenance too. I have a 2013 Ford Transit Connect with nearly 235k hard miles on it and nothing but fluid changes, tires, shocks, and accessory belt, and brakes (rear brakes still had a life in them even with over 200k miles). Maintenance is the overwhelming factor in vehicle longevity. Changing fluids and basic wear items will pretty much keep any vehicle on the road for several hundred thousand miles.

Maybe even lie a little? I have no doubt they are fine vehicles.... take my brother for example, he had a Camry that he swore was a tank, "never did nothin' to that car". Never mind that you had to get in the car from the passenger door almost Dukes of Hazard style, never mind that the power windows didn't work on 3 or the 4 windows.....the car took a right turn if you even thought about taking your hands off the wheel at highway speeds....I could go on but I think ya'll get the gist All cars need repairs if you drive them enough.

3 Toyotas 550,000 miles over 20 years no mechanical failures. Only preventive maintenance.

1 Ford F150 8 years 225,000 miles. Left stranded on interstate once, total break failure (in a parking lot thank God), electrical modules replaced multiple times.

Retired my FJ Cruiser last year with 349k. I currently have a 2 year old Tundra and 1 year old Camry with no issues.

I’ve never had a major problem with one. I don’t buy cars often & when I do, I expect them to last….so for my money, it’s Lexus/Toyota.
Are they perfect, no. The Tundra turbo engine problems are proof that they have “teething issues” like everyone else. The difference is….Toyota seems to learn from them & build better products. Unlike Ford, GM, Dodge.

I have owned 3. A Celica, a Supra, and a Camry. The Celica and Camry were the most dependable cars I ever owned. The Supra was dependable, but damn when something did break, repair costs were eye-watering.

They were the most dependable cars ever built.

Keyword: WERE

I know the service manager at a large Toyota dealership. He has been there 30 years. He says the dropoff in build quality is sad. They really have fell off.

He says, the more of them they build in America, the worse they get.
