I used to be one of those people who, despite being maxed out of my vacation days, still just didn't take them.

Then, all of a sudden, negative changes to office life happened, micromanaging began, perks taken away, etc...made me wonder why I wasn't taking vacation days since I get two free days a month.

Now, I am taking two days off a month regardless of whether I'm going out of town or not.

Your company, ultimately, doesn't care about you, so take those days off when you feel like it.

I get it. But as someone who had those same thoughts when I was younger, I'd tell them to save for later. Old age gets here quicker than you think. Dont neglect that retirement fund, whatever it may be.

An idle mind is the devil's plaything. Staying busy is good for us.

I would take eking for survival rather than working my life away at least you have some cool experiences along the way.

then what is stopping you from selling your house, buying an awesome tent, some fire arms, bow and other survival gear and heading into the Canadian Wilderness or going to live in the atchafalaya basin or up in the wilderness of Maine or Idaho?

if you think that is what you prefer...get after it

I just spent 4 days on Hilton Head Island with my wife and I’m at the airport for our return flight. I obviously cannot wait to get home and see my kid.

But I mean are we as human beings really meant to work 5-7 days a week with maybe one full day for leisure until we’re 65 years old? It just doesn’t seem like that’s what humanity should be.

so you loved everything about a commercialized tourist place that had people working to make sure your vacation was amazing.....and your conclusion is humans are not meant to work 5 days a week?

we were meant to work 24/7 hunting food and protecting and dying at 35.

but how do you propose you pay for the vacation and the people serving you? how do you propose we motivate people to build the things that you loved so much?

yall find any reason to bitch and complain. Great vacation to a great location that 99% of the US cant afford........well let me run to TD and complain about human existence

We’re staying on the 6th floor of a building with no elevators. We traded air conditioning for a ‘lift’. View should be nice though.

I try to schedule it where I have several days off even after I get home. Nothing worse than having to go straight back to work the morning after getting home. On vacation in NYC right now, flying back tomorrow and have another full week to chill before going back to work

I early retired at 59. Had to leave the company I worked for. They were churning out the oldsters. My retirement portfolio is worth twice what it was when I left. That helps.

After Omaha I stayed in the ozark mtns for a couple of days by myself. Barely any cell service or wifi

Life was simple. Main objectives were going hiking, swimming, and grilling big ribeyes every night

Life was simple, probably some of the best days I’ve ever had. Coming back to reality was tough.

I just got irritated at my wife today for planning too many trips and I said 3 a year. Period.

We've been averaging about a trip every 6 weeks for the last year and I'm burnt out. We need to get caught up on things here and I need time for fishing and building furniture Im behind on in my woodshop.

We “should” be out hunting game and struggling to thrive in nature, but a long time ago, we figured out how to build civilization so that we can work 5 days a week and have some chill time.

I’m probably just jaded AF, but that sounds much more fulfilling than corporate world bullshite

We did a big RV trip this year and did a bunch of national parks. I definitely question why our society went so work focused in this country. Looking back at the Gerhke's trips from the Ken Burns National Parks documentary, I would love to do shite like that every year where they took weeks to explore the country.

Europe has it right with their leave style and how much sick/vacation/baby leave they get. We have a limited time here, shame we waste so much time to companies that don't care about us.

Hell, I wish I just had the pension retirement plans these idiot boomers got where they stay working at the company even after they hit the pay to stay mark. I'm dumping as much as I can into my 401k and other accounts, I'm getting out and living well after the kid goes through college.

Just had a friend transfer to the Netherlands for work, he is getting paid well and getting all kinds of benefits to live over there. If my wife wasn't so tied into this part of the country, I'd consider doing the same.
