Maybe the most insightful post I've ever seen on the OT.

I know a married couple who retired, sold their home, and live and travel in their RV. They also sold it and recently bought a new one.

We did 6 months in a furnished short term rental while owning our house deciding if we wanted to move a few states away. I would absolutely do that in retirement. We take 2 week condo vacations now and love it. Months would be even better.

Know a couple in their late 50s with grown kids that cashed out the house, etc, bought a small RV and travel the country. Usually land back in NOLA for extended stays a couple of times a year.

I would rather rent a different furnished apartment every six months, if that's what I'm going for. But RV parks/sites just aren't really my cup of tea

Sounds like she's interested in the key club.

high end RV,

$150K to $200K range

At first I thought this was low until I researched RVs and honestly you can get some really nice ones around 200k

Now I’m trying to figure out how this is around 150k but a fully loaded Escalade is 120k.

I would have though half a million at least for those

If you get your MD you can call yourself “Quincy”.

Your wife is playing you. She’ll grow bored with the lifestyle after a year or so.

Kinda off subject.
I lived in a van back in the 90’s . Traveled the west coast. Had a blast.
Fast forward to today. It would take a Prevost with a trailer for me to me happy.
It’s not what instagram makes you think.

Just because you can't keep your woman in check doesn't mean that it's a bad idea.

My parents kept their house but traveled around in an RV when they retired. They saw the country for the 1st 5 years, then they did 10 years volunteering at state parks, then my mom got cancer and they returned home and sold the RV.

In several years after the kids are done with college, we are seriously considering buying a small RV and traveling from location to location so my wife can "travel nurse". A lot of travel jobs offer housing so we'd only use the RV to get from A to B. I'd get a local job here and there to keep from going insane.

Eventually, we will get tired of it and buy a house somewhere we want to retire.

Last time I drove all through Colorado i was suprised at the random rv camps.

I guess not surprised at the spots they picked, but i was like damn. some of these people were traveling and prob decided to just stay a while.

It’s a great lifestyle. My older siblings do it and my dad and his wife did for years.

One word of caution,

quote:

I’m talking a high end RV, $150K to $200K range

Isn’t “high end”. A nice toy hauler 5th wheel is pushing $200k the high end stuff is $400k plus new especially if your talking motor home.

If youve already got something that can tow, you can get a nice pull behind for cheaper.

And depending on the amount of people, say just you and the wife, that would be the way to go imo. Plus you have your regular vehicle to drive too instead of pulling it behind the rv.

IDK, i can get a bad arse 1 person camper for 40k and be good and pull it behind my truck thats already paid for.

Buy something in the 20-80k range used that doesn't require an 80k truck to pull it, and keep your house. RVing is a ton of fun but these YouTubers doing it full time are tricking people IMO.

My parents did it for about 20 years after they retired until they got too old to keep it up. Family always camped when I was growing up and that was my parents dream retirement.

Traveled the country visiting kids, family national parks. Wintered in Florida. They loved it.
