Y’all ever do MR drives with tootsie rolls?

I remember going to these with my grandpaw when I was like 10ish and all the way through high school to get my service hours.

My grandpaw and dad are both KofC’s and I’ll think I’ll join eventually. They pushed me to hard in college, but thought it wouldn’t be fair since I was 2 hours away and wouldn’t have time to actively participate.

I joined a year ago and love it. I echo pretty much what every other brother knight has said. What church are you looking to join at?

I would recommend you do it. You'll get out of it what you put into it. If you don't like it you can always drop out after a year.

Let me know how it goes. I joined in 1988, but I haven't been too active since 1989.

Anyone here have any stories?

Yeah, about two after I graduated HS a friend of mine asked me to join with him. I did. Every year around August they sent me a list of a bunch of girls who were seniors in HS.. Where I live they have a thing were they pick a group of HS seniors to be princesses and then they crown one "Ms Evangeline". All the girls interested in being a princess had to call all the dudes in the local KC and ask for their vote.

I hated getting those calls, I never answered them. But I realized that most of the people that was active in the KC pretty much got off on getting calls from these girls. After about 5 years I decided I didn't want to be in it anymore. When I didn't pay my fees, they sent some dude to my house to try to convince me to stay in and sell me insurance. He drove to me from Lafayette. He showed me why it would be in my best interest to remain a member then I told him I still wanted to get out.. The guy was nice and soft spoken, but when I told him I still wasn't interested, it was like he became a whole different person. He was all like "I drove in from Lafayette doing the busiest time of day and going back I will probably have to go through even more traffic. I am trying to do something that is in your best interest because you will regret it later on in life".

Before he came to my house, he called me and I told him I was not interest. He asked me "do you mind if I stop by your house on ______________ . I would just like to take a few moments of your time to talk with you before you decide to no renew your membership". So when he got pissed because I wouldn't buy any life insurance or renew my membership I asked him "Why did you come at all? I told you on the phone I was not going to renew my membership". He told me something like "Well usually when I go see people they realize that it's not the best idea to not renew their membership". I had to fight my instinct.. He was an older guy and I told myself it wasn't worth it, but I was about to lose it on that dumb frick. Don't come to my house, feed me a bunch of bullshite and then get pissed at me because you told me some shite about doing gods work and it didn't work in me...

They also make most of their money hosting Bingo every week and selling fireworks during Christmas & 4th of July.

If your Parish has a Men’s club I’d suggest joining that rather than the KC’s

Yep.
We have a big crawfish cook off, have a golf tourney, do a $10,000 raffle, do a beer booth at jazzfest, etc. We raise over $100K a year for the church or school. Lot's of fun and drinking.

When I get older I will consider the Knights of Columbus.

My granddad was in it. He had a badass sword hanging on the wall. Thought it was pretty cool as a kid.

You understand that they were formed to care for widows originally? So, yes, they sell insurance.

While you boys are having your little fish fries, the Masons are determining the fate of the world.
