You are so misinformed it's funny.
Everything the knights do in terms of public service and fundraising is 100% transparent.
The things that are in secret are details, initiations, virtues, etc that outside people don't really need to know.
This comparison proves you don't know what you're talking about. The knights don't sell anything to anyone outside of a fundraiser a council might have. Ours does a meat and cheese sale for instance. It's not a pyramid scheme or a sales organization.
It started so there would be life insurance available for men in high risk jobs so their families would be taken care of if the men died. The insurance is only available for members only and you don't even have to get it. There's no product being sold outside of the council.

I don’t want to feel like I’m being invited to an Amway meeting or a Timeshare sales meeting. Those are profit making entities so I understand the need for sneaky, secretive strategies to lure people in it

Am I understanding the use of that term correctly to mean that there is some kind of induction ceremony? Prayers, costumes, scripted readings? That kind of stuff?
Or is it just a social hour where the new guys stand up, introduce themselves, and then receive a polite round of applause with a few backslaps and handshakes to follow?
This is one of those secrets.

What clued you in Captain Obvious? Was it the questions I was asking? Your sharp detective skills led you conclude that asking to be informed is a sign of being misinformed, huh? Can’t get nothing past you.

Now we’re back to this again. You’re not really addressing the need for secrecy by claiming other people don’t need to know these things. You’re avoiding the issue. I want to know these things before joining. Is it accurate that these are kept secret to get more people to show up for that first meeting?
Maybe you can set me straight on what I’m starting to conclude. Tell me if the following observation is wrong.
The Men’s Club is for Catholic Men who like to have a social organization that performs acts of charity as part of their religion.
The Knights of Columbus is for Catholic men who like to have a social organization that performs acts of charity as part of their religion, but they also like to play dress-up, develop an organizational ranking with nebulous requirements that may differ from organization to organization, and they like the idea of presenting themselves as a secret society, for whatever status that may confer.
Yes, I am asking because I am not well informed.

For someone so misinformed, you should try to make less jokes and be less snarky.

Not at all. The meetings are like any board meeting. The secret part are the degree ceremonies. They're secret because it's supposed to be spontaneous for the candidates. I can't really say more than that, but it's nothing bad.

See, this shite is why you can't act all butthurt and innocent when I call you clueless. I can't really speak specifics though.

My dad was a KC. I used to hang out and help at KC functions when I was a kid. They did a lot of good things to help people and there was never any shortage of alcohol at these functions....Never really saw much secrecy or dress up.

No one will see anything unless you go through the ceremonies.

Why? What would happen if you did? If the answer is nothing, why not elaborate?
By now I’ve concluded I’m a terrible candidate for KofC (seems like it’s a bunch of weirdos who like to role play (they call themselves knights, play dress up, and use swords as props), and might be better suited for Men’s Club.

I guess I was misled by literally every public appearance during mass/funerals, my grandfather’s closet, and the majority of a Google Images search. I’m so misinformed with my darn firsthand experience and Google.

So it's a Fraternity for older guys?
Posted on 2/26/18 at 1:44 pm to Willie Stroker
It’s been addressed already but I’ll bite. The “dress up” is for things like funerals and other formal events. As a teenager it meant a great deal to me at my grandfather’s funeral and it’s one of the main reasons I joined myself. If you’re not into that OK no big deal, don’t do that. The secrecy is only related to the ceremonies of induction so each individual can receive out of it what the Holy Spirit gives to them. It’s done secretly solely so as not to give the individual a preconceived idea about the experience.

Dude, I don’t know what your problem is or what kind of answer you are looking for, but you’ve been acting like a pretty huge jerk in this thread. Just go to the K of C website and Wikipedia if you are having so much trouble with this, otherwise, you’re just being obnoxious.
