Soldier involved in love triangle loses his head
I remember hearing something about it but always thought it was fiction. Turns out, the guy has been out of jail for a while and lives in Baltimore.

The Jody story we always heard about back in my day was the guy who came in from the field and found his wife in bed with Jody. In a rage the husband throws Jody out of their apartment window, which depending on who is telling the story, was anywhere from the 3rd to 5th floor up.
I also heard one about a wife who sent her husband a supposed porn video she’d bought for him. This woman is being taken to pound town from behind. You can’t see the woman’s face until the very end when she turns around and it’s the guy’s wife who proceeds to smile at the camera and say that she wants a divorce. Some versions of this story have Jody being a large black dude, others it’s multiple dudes running a train, again depending on who’s telling the story.

It was in Jarhead and in Swofford's book but it never happened in real life. That story has been passed around more times than I can count. The first time I heard it was from my SFC in 1998.
