I have a master's degree and believe people should be informed of the information and make their own decisions. If a business requires one, wear one. It should not be mandated by the government.

It’d probably be healthier if the US outlawed fast food, do you support that?

I see you didn't get a reply to this post.

You are right, we don't shut down fast food (we even have the LA DOH promoting it) when it could arguably save lots of lives. The CDC says 647,000 Americans die each year from heart disease.

We don't shut down driving and trucking (economy) when 35,000 people die every year. In fact you just take an easy one-time test and you are allowed to drive 70mph in a 2 ton vehicle 3ft away from each other.

There are plenty of examples of balancing risk in our everyday lives. Yet even now after we've seen the Covid mortality rate plummet, some are willing to strangle the economy.

Every time I go into a store nearly all of the employees have the masks below their nose, and about half of them have them down below their chin.

They’re also stocking and touching everything without gloves, as are all of the customers.

Seems kind of redundant.

You mean wearing the equivalent of a tshirt sleeve over my face will not stop a virus from spreading?

I would really love to understand how anyone with a reasonable education can be so dim on this issue. Please enlighten me. Thanks.

OK I will play along. Yes I went to college, B.S. in Zoology where I was one of a very few undergraduates who performed research. My field of research was PRRSV (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus) where is our team devloped one of the early vaccines to mitigate the incidence of PRRSV in swine herds.

Pat Halbur DVM, PhD was the lead researcher on the project. Last I knew Pat was the interim Dean of the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. It has been a while since we connected so I do not know if he still holds that position.

I went on to earn a masters degree as well. So in your "game" I would say I have at least a "reasonable education", not to mention direct experience with respiratory diseases, albeit in a different species.

Why do I think the forced wearing of masks is ineffective? Probably in a large part the same reasons as Drs. Michael Klompus, Charles Morris, and Erica Shenoy, et al whoi state in their article published in the New England Journal of Medicine (yes that one, the one that is considered one of the most prestigious medial publications in the world) to wit:

quote:

We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic.

Also, the wearing of masks by inexperienced people tends to lead to the following:

- increased touching of the face, in particular the eyes, nose, and mouth. The places most effective for viral transmission
- a much more relaxed approach to hygiene (in particular the frequency and efficacy of hand washing) as the mask gives a false sense of security
- a relaxed vigilance about spacing and other more effective viral control steps
- so many people wearing face coverings (I won't even call them masks) that have absolutely no ability to prevent a viral globule from being expunged from their mouth or nose

So, color me dim as you would like. Close off your reason to anything that contradicts whatever expert you are listening to says and by all means do not read or solicit opinions that may differ from your preconceived notions. After all of that considers those who disagree with you dim witted.

I had a doctor’s appointment today and was about to get out of my car when I realized I didn’t have my mask on.

Literally tears in my eyes as I put the mask on realizing the sacrifice of patriots before me was all for naught as our tyrannical government has now sapped us of all our precious freedoms.

undergrad and masters here. If the business requires a mask I will obviously put one on but if not I am not wearing shite and will just ignore any customers that say anything. Luckily the stores by the camp are not requiring a mask so the only time I have had to put mine on is to run into the grocery store by the house. Trump 2020 mask.

It's about civil liberties and law. Even though Edwards invokes LA res Act 29 - 721. The law has vagueries that lead me to question whether he has the ability to mandate masks and implement fines . Thus far no one has challenged and the cowards in the state legislature have been silent in challenging some of the legitimacy of his actions.

Additionally, with all of the mixed and quite frankly, sensationalized reaction to the virus since March from the CDC, state health departments and St.Anthony of DC, I am skeptical that any of this shite is all that effective whether it be masks, social distancing, etc.....including HCQ. personally I think the sooner we reach HIT the better we will be.

I am a college graduate with two post graduate degrees. J.D. in '93 from Loyola and Executive MBA from St.Louis U in 2002
