Just to piss people off more about Obamacare. A lot of people don't know this, but the subsidies are based on INCOME and not ASSETS. Sooo, I work with folks in their late 50's and early 60's who have net worths' in $3 to $4MM that get generous subsidies where a couple will have a $50 to $100/mo premium because they can keep their income low by just living on their cash savings.

I, on the other hand, will probably see a premium this year of $1700/mo for my family of four and a deductible of $10,000. My 2024 premium is $1400 with a deductible of $9k.

It infuriates me when I see those commercials celebrating super low health insurance......

Promotion with 10% raise effective 09.01.2024 in addition to quarterly bonus up to 4% of salary.

Insurance increased from $202/month to $225/month (11% increase).

Myself and 4 kids (wife is on her own plan at her work, surcharge was too expensive to justify)

90/10 $400 Deductible $1200 Max OOP

One of the perks of working for a 45,000+ employee company.

I bet these type companies hire/fire for health reasons.

Could you imagine the looks you would get if you cost them 1 million on a health claim

I don't think they could. There'd be an exodus the next day. I do know somebody who had to go find another job since he was getting close to being cut off though

Our company had a handful of ongoing claims that combined for millions of dollars this year. That factors into the renewal and the premium for my wife and I with a $3,500/$7,000 deductible would be over $25,000 next year. At least it's pre-tax.

I'll be shopping on the individual plan marketplace, looking for a higher deductible and lower premiums than our group plan (self-employed and pay 100%).

After the ACA eliminated annual and lifetime limits, catastrophic claims moved from state high-risk plans back to employer plans, making everything more costly for the other participants and their employers. It also removed incentives for providers and drug manufactures to limit costs since there are deeper pockets to pick.

ETA: it's illegal to fire based on health reasons, under the ACA, ERISA and HIPAA.

6k deductible for me. And the company raised rates and cut their contribution to our HSA in half from 2k to 1k a year.

Our company doesn’t contribute to the HSA. Everyone else I know of, their work contributes $1000.

Our family BCBS LA plan is about $2k a month and really doesn't do much. Most of our medical expenses are dental and that coverage is arse. Max OOP is around $14k I think. Of course all that BS is assuming I can get a doctor to see me and properly diagnose before I die. FU Barry

And you have to have a very small income to qualify. So my daughter (no pics) who was over 26 but a full time physical therapy student didn't qualify for any subsidy. She also didn't qualify for Medicaid, not that she wanted it. She was required to buy a cheap policy that paid for almost nothing by her school. Obamacare didn't cover massive numbers of people and give them insurance. They just shifted around who had insurance and made everyone else pay for it.

It doesn't help insurance rates that insurance companies fund idiotic surgeries like gender transitions

I recently finished the task of updating our Benefits from United Healthcare to Blue Cross Blue Shield. Fun times.
