Would love to read that letter! Would you transpose it for us here? TIA!

I am directly related to a man that took out 8 yanks single handedly during the battle of Baton Rouge. He was captured alive and Cahill kept him as a POW for his bravery instead of executing him. He escaped 9 days later (took out another 3 yanks), was picked up in Plaquemine by Rebs and put back into infantry circulation. He got 11.

My great-great-great grandma’s youngest brother was conscripted into the confederate army out of New Orleans
He fought in the Baton Rouge area and was a POW.
Thirteen years before he (and what was left of his family) arrived at the Port of New Orleans having survived the Great Hunger.
He survived the civil war too but didn’t get married until he was older.

Confederate ancestors from Arkansas and Tennessee.
One yankee ancestor who was a surgeon at the Marine Hospital in New Orleans during the Union occupation of the city. However, he was under contract with the U.S. Army and not officially enlisted so I don't know if he counts.

Trump told me that we’re winning so much that we’re getting tired of winning.

And would it make sense that you were going to fight and kill the citizens of Oregon if the reason they were leaving is because of something that is legal in not all but legal in your own state?

I'm sure I had more than a few, but the one family story passed down would have been my great-great-great uncle. This story was told to me by my Great Gradmother who was born in 1897. It was her uncle. He was off fighting and the family here in Mississippi hadn't heard anything for a few years, so they assumed him dead. A few months after the war ended they were out working and like the prodigal son saw Uncle Luther walking up looked all ragged and disheveled with lice all over him. He'd been captured and was in a prisoner of war camp, and they released him after the war ended.

I had three great-great grandfathers fight for the Confederates and one for the Union. I’ve traced about two dozen 3x and 4x great uncles that fought (mostly Confederate). Dozens of distant cousins that served. A few died in combat, a few from disease, and some became prisoners of war. A real mixed bag of stories.
I’m sure a lot of baws here had kin in the same units, like Miles’ Legion, 9th Partisan Rangers, 9th Louisiana Infantry, etc.

I can find 3 great great great however many grandfathers on my mother’s side. I can’t really find any of them doing anything of note in the Civil War, just privates and not at any notable battles. One was discharged for old age. Just some pissed off old hick from Claiborne County I guess.
