America’s Long Love Affair With Beer Is on the Rocks

An American walks into a bar. “What’ll it be?” says the bartender.
For years, more likely than not, the answer would have been: “Make it a beer.”
Not anymore. Last year, for the first time, Americans reaching for a drink more often chose a glass of wine or a cocktail.

Beer isn't going anywhere as long as baws are around. Don't let this hipster propaganda fool you.

I hate getting stuck at the bar behind a group of retards ordering "handcrafted" slough gin fizzes or whatever in the frick. Just throw me a high life dammit

The rise of wine on tap has given rise to the various wine bars...and women of all ages increasingly going to "bars" as a result.
In what was once a male dominated area, bars and pubs, that has changed.

Is this what it is this week? Craft beer was the devil to shitty beer, now it’s wine and cocktails???

I really think this is true...a beer don't look as good on instragram as a hand crafted, locally sourced, deconstructed pisco sour

nah baw, i've drank more american light beer in a year than you have since you were of drinking age likely.

Beer will always be a staple in America. The WSJ can kiss my arse with this fake news.
I didn't read the article but I wouldn't doubt beer numbers are down given the amount of competition with wine and spirits.

I'll enjoy a quality craft beer even now and then, like an Amber Bock

It's been interesting to see some of the effects of the big beer co's buying up the smaller craft breweries. As an example, Goose Island Bourbon County, Founders KBS, and Dogfish Head 120 used to all be highly coveted "rare" beers that people would line up for and would sell out immediately. I can find all 3 of those beers at the 2 gas stations and the grocery store in my neighborhood.
